Now the *Ducks* are disappearing...

The loss of wetlands in the prairie pothole region of central North America due to a warmer and drier climate will negatively affect millions of waterfowl that depend on the region for food, shelter and raising young, according to research published February 1 in the journal BioScience. The new research shows that the region appears to be much more sensitive to climate warming and drying than previously thought.

"The impact to the millions of wetlands that attract countless ducks to these breeding grounds in spring makes it difficult to imagine how to maintain today's level of waterfowl populations in altered climate conditions," said Dr. Glenn Guntenspergen, a U.S. Geological Survey researcher and one of the report authors. "Parents may not have time to raise their young to where they can fly because of wetlands drying up too quickly in the warming climate of the future," he added.

My thoughts exactly. Here in NW NJ they don’t migrate at all. You’ll actually see them huddle together on frozen lakes & ponds.

There sure is no shortage of crapping geese!

Or Mallards either. I agree with the calling BS.

As with any good conservation effort...We need more duck hunters.

Was not “The Dust Bowl” of the 1930’s located in areas this article is speaking about? Seems to me that weather patterns run in cycles that results in changing migration patterns.

"Unfortunately, the model simulations show that under forecasted climate-change scenarios for this region (an increase of 4-degrees Celsius), the western prairie potholes will be too dry and the eastern ones will have too few functional wetlands and nesting habitat to support historical levels of waterfowl and other wetland-dependent species," said Dr. W. Carter Johnson, another study author and a researcher at South Dakota State University.

Sooooo, this is based on now revealed bogus data and is nothing more than just one of several models predicted by an unknown, new and unproven software program developed and run by the "climate-change" proponents themselves.

Based upon these facts and a careful examination of the circumstances under which the model simulation was ran it is my opinion that the predictions of the software program are a load of krap.

This "science" journal might as well be toilet paper.

It's USED toilet paper ... already has "stuff" smeared on it.

Couple more months, iceout and ducks be flying. Spring duck hunting is big along the Yukon with the Indians. They live off ducks for a couple weeks. Few years back, some new fed park guy came to Ak and attempted to tell the Indians they couldn't shoot ducks in the Spring. Be like telling all the hunters in lower 48 to start turning their guns in, ha. The Indians ignored the feds as usual, do what they have done for a thousand years. Fed guy finally realized he couldn't make them do what went against their moral worldview, ha.

The Whites sure could learn a little from them backward Indians, 60 years removed from the stoneage.

Warmer and drier?! BWAHAHA If it gets any “warmer and drier” It’ll be a toss up as to whether we freeze or drown first!

Raining AGAIN here in eastern NC. And cold!

Part of it is "smarter ducks".

Duck hunters have shot the "golden goose", so to speak. Ducks fly higher; land less often; are no longer fooled by blinds; avoid open areas with corn kernels; and listen closely to loud noises.

Plus, with the advances made in corn the last 20 years they get all the nutrition they need from corn wherever they find it. No need to pull grass at the edges of ponds.

I think we could get back to the stupid ducks through the simple expedient of requiring duck hunters to wear sunglasses at all times.

(NOTE: I used to raise ducks and can "call" to wild ducks flying overhead and they will come down. I have a cousin ~ not so distant ~ who can walk up to a wild duck and she'll jump up in his arms. We are both descendants of a fellow who used to go around with a trained pet rooster ~ did that during the Revolutionary War while serving in a guerrilla force against the Brits in South Carolina in fact ~ no mean trick ~ many of us suspect it's kind of an inherited knack with the birds).

Michael Medved had a guy on his show yesterday talking about some wetland that is being wiped-out so that the Liberals can build one of their Light Rail Systems

Totally ~ it's "cool dry air", and "warm moist air".

Rainfall is a separate item. You'll get massive rainfall at the margins of the "cool dry air" zones as the cool air descends and cools the margins of the warm moist air.

There are more Mallards in Texas this winter than I have ever seen before.
