The story is so short on details but ...
If she was showering when they confronted her and they shot her through a shower door then no firearm that she kept in the house would have made a difference. Just bad timing.
I don’t have a gun at my side when I choose to shower. Maybe I should!

Perhaps in conjunction with a house alarm system (religiously used) that would have alerted her that something was amiss.

I dont have a gun at my side when I choose to shower. Maybe I should! I would suggest the Heckler & Koch HK416. It will fire immediately after being doused in water with no danger to the user. Awesome weapon.
