WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - First-time claims for state unemployment benefits fell by the largest amount since July. The number of initial claims in the week ending Feb. 6 fell 43,000 to 440,000. This was a sharper drop than expected.

remember how this white house said the GDP rose in the last quarter but it came out it weeks later never rose anything like that and the MSM hardly covered that story and now they;’re in overdrive again.
Lets say Bush was still in the MSM would report this as unemployment goes up , more and more people claiming, nearly a half million.
the MSM have been in love with obama since he came on the scene back at the Dem convention.
Now these figures come out and the MSM says we’re seeing a great improvement, .
The only way the MSM would even report any realy truth to obama is if they saw their own 401k’s gong down quickly and wherre they get affected directly .
Still to them they’re good, they have a house, a job, and decent money coming in so screw the average working class.
Yes remember that class the working blue collar class, the class which has been forgotton.
They say middle class is around 80 grand a year well wife and I don’t make anything like that put together so are we peasant class?
The class which works hard, long hours but do not get freebies and pay taxes but are forgot.
if it were a republican in the white house the MSM would be reporting how the real figures are and not the under 10% are unemployed.
How many times have we heard the MSM report the other millions or the % figures of the country who have lost unemployment , out of work, can’t get a job etc?

I blame the voters who voted for this idiot for treating the election like it’s American idol and also the voters who voted based on color but I also blame the so called MSM who have not done their job since he came on the scene, it is truly sickening to see them bend over and kiss his toes.

I don't think so, the press is just as short sighted no matter who is in power.
My son is not unemployed but is working a temp job to get some money. Many people are in the same fix. No benefits and long hours for crap money. There are several business’s taking advantage of this economy to use temporary services
to pay low wages and no benefits. Thanks Obama

People running through their benefits and dropping off the rolls doesn't count. I'm in agreement that true unemployment borders 20%.
The "percentages" are the number of people our government pays an unemployment check to every week. Not the number of people that are actually unemployed. Just because the number of people that are receiving a check has fallen it does not mean the number of people that are unemployed has gone down. It simply means that those that have been on unemployment the longest are now falling off the ledgers because they have reached the end of the period of time they are allowed to receive benefits.
On a side note. I find it odd that no one ever mentions the tens of thousands of self employed people that are out of work. I'm talking about all the small businessmen and women that are the backbone of American business. Those people that hire 2, 3, 4 or 5 people at most but that are now out of work themselves. Those people are not eligible for unemployment benefits even though they too are out of work. They are also NOT HIRING.
This country is sooooooo screwed and if something's not done to legally remove the illegal alien from the White House's Oval Office not only is the United States screwed but so too is the rest of the world.
Where are our military officers? Do any of you remember the "OATH" you took?

At this rate, there will be no private industry jobs by November of 2012. I wonder what the consequences of that will be.

I wonder if we are going to get the 13th consecutive monthly upward “revision” in a row, so that the Dems get the headline today, and the footnote next Saturday night giving us the real number.
This will probably have to keep happening for another decade before the stupid press figures it out......that assumes, of course, that they are remotely capable of figuring.
Well, after a while there are not too many folks left to fire.
