TIFTON, GA (WALB) –An unusual case of animal cruelty in Tift County. Someone shot a cat with an arrow. The family thinks someone in their neighborhood is responsible. They hope whoever did it will admit it.
Meet Tom, the five year old family cat with a whole lot of personality, and a whole lot of strength.
"He's got the exit wound and entry wound where that arrow was lodged in him," said Dr. Branch.
For being able to survive a cruel and unnecessary act, that could have taken his life.

Uhh...your tabby was probably killing every little birdie, bunny, squirrel and any other critter it came across in the Wildlife Refuge. Sounds like it was a feral cat.

There are those on this thread that are stating what they would physically do to harm another human, and are the same ones that are speculating that someone who would kill an animal would kill a human.
there is a big disconnect here. lotta hate from animal lovers.

Exactly. What the hell was the damn thing doing loose? I'll tell you what: killing native birds, fouling neighbors' yards, destroying gardens, defecating everywhere.
I love my kitties and I love my wildlife, and I make sure they’re all happy and thriving. Funniest cat-wildlife experience I’ve ever had was a cat-squirrel encounter. I’ve got all my squirrels trained to take peanuts and acorns from people. The more confident ones demand it from every human who emerges from the back door of the house — the only one we really use, and the cat door is a couple of feet away from it and opens onto the same covered patio.
So one day, my dear now-departed then-20-year-old cat heads out the cat door to take a stroll in the garden, and is promptly confronted by a very confident squirrel — confident that it understands how this nut-getting business works: a creature comes out of the house onto the patio, you run up to it, and it gives you a nut. This squirrel was doing what psychologists call “overgeneralization”, and I knew immediately what was going on, and could barely contain my laughter. Poor kitty, however, not having studied psychology, was baffled. So was the squirrel, who just couldn’t figure out why this wasn’t working, and kept trying over and over again, moving back a couple of feet and then repeating the approach, stopping a couple of inches from the cat in typical begging squirrel pose. The cat was a kind-hearted, patient soul and hadn’t the slightest interest in chasing, much less harming the squirrel. But by the third or fourth try, he was feeling like this might be some sort of threat so, still in a sitting position, and even leaning back a little on account of the “threat”, he took a very slow hesitant swat towards the squirrel (deliberately not actually touching the squirrel, but trying to send a gentle message about cat-squirrel relations). I really felt sorry for the squirrel, whose disappointment and confusion was complete. Naturally, I went and fetched a nut and gave it to the still-confused squirrel . . . after I’d stopped laughing.
So you see, if I kept my cats inside, I’d never have the chance to enjoy this sort of wonderful entertainment.
Ugh. That hurts just reading what happened to you. I guess I failed to say while accidents do happen they are preventable with a little forthought and responsible adult supervision.

Not that there’s anything wrong with a half-wild animal doing what comes naturally...

I’m sure the person tried to kill the cat. That, we do know.
You believe killing a cat for any reason is not justifiable.
Others, (looks to be about 50%) disagree.
I am sure that the majority of hunters (like myself) who take aim on their game, are not wanting to make that perfect shot so they can brag about it, but do not want an animal to suffer.
The deal with this cat is not a good one at all.
My concern about this conversation is the great sympathy for an animal and the lack of understanding of humanity.
Sure, there are freaks around, maybe 3% maybe more. But someone who kills a cat shouldn’t “burn in hell” “be beat to a pulp” “same thing done to them as the cat”
I am not saying we need to understand these people either. wouldn’t waste my time.
Ya know, i’ve spent some time in the bush. Seen some things, done some things. I really don’t like the value of a human life compared to animals. I am right.

I love cats, dogs, horses, deer, and most all animals. Now, if you are using the word, “cat” as in catty, I’m not sure I agree with that.
However, we are all entitled to our own opinions, such is the beauty of freedom. I may not agree with you on any given subject, but, I’ll sure defend your right to your opinion.

Well, hope it IS a temporary ignorance or bad aim, rather than a more 'viral' MO. . .
There is enough pain and suffering in life/in the world. To willfully impose more and upon innocent animals, is the kind of ignorance that grows backwards and threatens all.

File a civil suit in small claims court for trespass and property damage. The idiot who shot the cat should be hauled into court for criminal damage to property and firing a weapon near occupied dwellings.
Some people have perverted views of what can and can’t be done in trespass incidents. We have a thousand years of court-tested common law to deal with trespass. If we all decide that we can treat trespass however we want, then how about we shoot your truck when it crosses my property line. Or maybe we beat up a trespassing hiker.
We have laws and courts to maintain civilization. Lose that and maybe people will decide to shoot kids who trespass. BTW, we see that happen ocassionally.
