The neurobiologist accused of killing three colleagues at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, on Friday was also a suspect in a 1993 mail bombing plot against a Harvard Medical School professor, the Boston Globe quoted law enforcement official as saying Sunday.
Amy Bishop was questioned along with her husband, James Anderson, after two 6-inch pipe bombs were sent to the Newton, Mass., home of Dr. Paul Rosenberg. While opening the package, the doctor saw the wires and a cylinder and fled the house.
The Globe said investigators searched Dr. Bishops and Mr. Andersons home, but the United States Attorneys office did not seek any charges against them, and no one was ever charged in the case.
Early Saturday, the police in Huntsville charged the neurobiologist Dr. Bishop, 45, with capital murder in the shootings Friday that also left three people wounded during a faculty meeting. Dr. Bishop, who appeared to have had a promising future in the biotechnology business, had recently been told she would not be granted tenure, university officials said.
The revelation about the 1993 plot came after word that Dr. Bishop was linked to another death. On Saturday afternoon, the police in Braintree, Mass., announced that 24 years ago, Dr. Bishop had fatally wounded her brother, Seth Bishop, in an argument at their home, which The Boston Globe first reported on its Web site. The police were considering reopening the case, in which Dr. Bishop was not charged and the report by the officer on duty at the time was no longer available, said Paul Frazier, the Braintree police chief.

Prosecutorial descretion is one thing, but to have it happen in your favor twice in a lifetime for violent crimes is highly suspicious. What kind of “muscle” does this woman have behind her?
Does anyone know who the U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts was back in 1993? The Clinton appointee? This article doesn’t date the pipe bomb incident closely enough to be sure. The famous clinton firings were in March 1993.
As it happens, I know the attorney who was fired—Frank McNamara. He was a friend of a good friend of ours, and we got to know him well. He is definitely a straight arrow. A good Catholic, an honest guy. But if this happened after he was fired, I wonder if there could have been more funny business there.
Another dropped case. Maybe not enough evidence, but this is getting curioser and curioser.
She should have been locked up in 1986. Delahunt needs to answer for getting her released without charges.
atonement pt 2
I am thinking typical liberal looking man with a beard, long hair, and no chin.
That novel would be $29.99
Delahunt, the D congressman that Ginger Kennedy want to run against, was the DA that dropped the charges against her.
I’ll do it for the right amount. Send her to a spa for two weeks to soften her up first
That's standard New York Times policy, right out of their style book. Charles Manson is "Mr. Manson" and Sarah Palin is "Mrs. Palin."
She must be one of those right wing conservative terrorist Holder is so worried about.
OK. I found the Boston Globe article on this, and it says:
“Rosenberg was opening mail, which had been set aside by a cat-sitter, when he returned from a Caribbean vacation on Dec. 19, 1993, according to Globe reports at the time.”
So, the U.S. Attorney in question was the new Clinton appointee, no question about it. The Glob also says that the BATT was in charge of the case. This was back when the BATT was under a lot of fire, and clinton had talked about folding them into the FBI. The Waco business put an end to that, earlier in 1993. But they certainly would have done whatever clinton wanted them to do back then, assuming that matters got that far.
Good grief ! How old are the children? Hope they are close to being grown. Looks like their dad may not be too stable either.
Background check probably wouldn’t have turned anything up. She wasn’t charged in connection with the fatal shooting of her brother, nor was she charged in connection with the pipe bomb incident. Apparently was never even named a formal suspect in either case. Things that happened pre-Internet era are much harder to dig up info on if there’s no official record. If the same incidents occurred today, it would leave a findable trail on blogs and forums and social networking sites.
Though I’m, frequently shocked by how few people have even basic competence in internet searching. I was at an informal get together recently with a pretty high level CIA official (and not a political appointee or admin type, but really “in the trenches”) who was a childhood friend. We were talking about trying to track down other people we’d known in childhood and lost touch with, and it came out that she didn’t know you could exclude terms from a Google search. Huh??? Granted she has access to much more extensive sources of information, as well as a staff to handle tedious research, but still . . . Google is a route to a real treasure trove of information, if you just have a clue how to use it effectively.
It puts Cain and Abel to mind. This is one seriously mentally disturbed woman, who seems to think she is entitled to anything she wants, and must have been very jealous of her brother to have shot him 3 times, and got away with it.
She sounds like such a sweet woman. This is all due, of course, to her legitimate response to an oppressive patriarchy.
I’ve heard there are now competing theories among palaeontologists that the sudden demise of the dinosaurs was not due to a large meteorite impact or increased volcanic activity but was actually caused by Amy Bishop.
Word around the campfire here in Massachusetts is that Delahunt is very vulnerable in November. This news can't help him one bit.
