Since he voted lock-step with President Obama - and now POTUS’s policies are VERY unpopular - he needs to distance himself from those policies to be seen as “centrist”. Doing so as a Senate member would bring upon him a lot scorn from fellow Dems. This way he bows out, seperates himself from Obama and is setting himself up for a primary run against him in the next election. Just my $.02.
Here's my advice: If a lot of people start showing up in your restaurant wearing purple shirts, you might want to make note of that!
What a devious disgusting scam Bayh pulled on the citizens of Indiana.
Wait for the last minute so the powers that be in the dem party can choose the candidate.
That is what I think, This is Bayh giving Obama and Reid the middle finger!
I heard her on Fox and Friends this morning. The state of Indiana could do a LOT better by picking a random name out of the phone book.
Wow.
This should be good, as I’m certain the dems would have picked a different candidate if they didn’t have anybody in their primary.
This is not a senate seat the dems want to lose. But the last time John Warner ran (in 2002), the democrats here in Virginia not only didn’t try to get a candidate, they actively worked to keep anybody from qualifying as a democrat, so his only two opponents were independents.
My theory is he got really mad at what the DNC did to Dan Coates over the past two weeks.
Someone really ticked off Bayh.
From what he has said about partisanship, I think he was olled by Harry Reid and the Dem Leadership and didn't like it much. I don't believe Bayh was really that enthusiasic about voting for Health Care.
Are IN Dems fuming over this? Seems like Bayh’s timing was bad for them. This kind of intra-party squabbling can’t help them in the general election.
I’ve heard that, but if that was the case, why wouldn’t he just wait until thursday to announce — before the signatures are due, but after they need to be collected? Why give anybody any chance at all of getting the signatures needed?
IIRC...he was a crossdressing identity thief and convicted felon.
He'd have fit right in with the 111th Congress
Actually, just the opposite. Bayh had no idea this woman would be the candidate.
Bayh waited until the 11th hour to announce with the expectation that there would be no candidate arising from the grass roots Democrats, which would allow the Democrat central committee to hand pick their favorite party hack.
Bayh thought he was doing the Democrat party machine a big favor. Looks like he should have waited another day before announcing so as not to give this woman time to get the necessary signatures. Bayh's announcement fired up this woman's people to go the extra mile at the last minute to get the signatures.
Bayh is no moderate, he is a leftwing machine politician who the MSM builds up as a centrist.
...is setting himself up for a primary run against him in the next election. Just my $.02.
Not a bad two cents worth, but don't forget that Mitch Daniels is termed out as Gov, and Bayh is more suited as Gov than Senator. Just my $.01.
That's a big Bada-BINGO!!!!
Evan Bayh is doing what Evan Bayh does.....He's blowing with the political wind.
Nothing new here.
I agree with you, but we have no confirmation that the female nutcase has the requisite signatures as yet.
Remember IL Lt. Governor candidate Cohen who won the Dem primary, but was then 'pushed out of the way'. See also NY Gov Patterson, oh, and NJ Senator Torrecelli also comes to mind. I should stop typing now, because I could be here all day.
Final thought: Will the Dems try to push Obama out of the way in 2012?
Too bad he didn’t have the spine to stand up to Reid/Pelosi/Obama and vote against health care reform. I might have actually had some respect for him. Instead he toed the party line. Now he’s acting all holier-than-thou. Give me a freakin’ break. He’s a political whore just like the other 99 members in the Senate.
All this looks like to me is ego, power tripping and setting himself up for a run for president as an “outsider.”
They'll still lose the seat though, just look petty and crooked in the process.
