IN Dem Says She Has The Signatures
Hotline On Call - National Journal ^ | 2/16/2010 | Reid Wilson

Posted on 02/16/2010 9:07:25 AM PST by Palmetto Patriot

Restaurant owner Tamyra d'Ippolito (D) has enough signatures to make the ballot in the race to replace Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN), she told Hotline OnCall in a brief interview.

Reached at her home, d'Ippolito said she was on her way out the door to drop off more signatures at the county clerk's office. D'Ippolito's backers have until noon to submit 4,500 signatures, including 500 from each of the state's 9 districts, to the appropriate county clerks.

"To my knowledge, yes we do. There's people putting in signatures as we speak," d'Ippolito said when asked if she has the signatures necessary to qualify for the ballot. "The answer is yes."

If she gets on the ballot, d'Ippolito will throw a serious wrench in Dem hopes of keeping the seat. If she is on the ballot as the only Dem contender, she would prevent the state party from filling the vacancy with a candidate of their own, likely an experienced contender.

So she is the only other one to file. The Dem’s may have a problem on their hands if they try to push her out of the way. She followed the rules of the game. Not that it matters to them.

“There’s (DEAD) people putting in signatures as we speak,” d’Ippolito said...

Sorry, I couldn’t resist!

From what I read elsewhere she ‘s coming up short. I hope she can do it, though.

About 10 or 15 years ago, some total whack job won the primary against Dan Burton. The democrats basically threw him to the wolves and gave no support. However, they were stuck with their primary system and rode it out. Burton won with about 80% of the vote. It was a safe seat for Burton no matter who ran against him so they didn’t really have anything to lose.

On the other hand, this is a SENATE seat, and one they cannot afford to lose. You watch; they will put mucho pressure on her to withdraw her candidacy so they can slate a candidate at their party congress in August. If they do, it will smell bad. The state media in Indiana isn’t totally in the tank for the dems yet, and they won’t sweep it under the rug like the national media would.

D'Ippolito's backers, ACORN, have until noon to submit 4,500 signatures, including 500 from each of the state's 9 districts, to the appropriate county clerks.

She was on Fox & FRiends this morning and said she had the signatures.

Of course the Dem's are going to be looking for fake names and duplicates. She better have an extra 100 in each district to cover for errors and fraud.

Someone really ticked off Bayh. No other explanation I can think of for him to knowingly screw his party over like this. Not that I mind, of course.

They don't have to push her out. They can bribe her out or threaten her out.

It looks like the Dem party is backing another candidate. Back room deals don’t you know.

He dropped out close to the deadline so they could name a replacement. They did not expect anyone to come up with the signatures in 24 hours.

Follow the money...the longer she holds out, the more $$ she’ll get. Nicely done on her part.

Someone really ticked off Bayh.

I read soemwhere that Harry Reid was "the last one to know" of Bayh's decision. May be a clue there as to who may have pizzed him off.

I think what they really had in mind was that no one would qualify for the ballot and the local Dems would hand pick the candidate.
