The American Istitute of Architects is the professional organization that represents architects. I am not only a member, but a past chapter president. The AIA has about 85,000 members nationally (although I can't seem to find an exact number). My guess is that the other 84,000 understand gravity and metallurgy a little better than the 1,000 loons they got to sign up.
That the article claimed there were 1000 architects and engineers that wanted another ( or more thorough) examination attracted my notice.
There are always a few nuts in any organization. I know there are in my professional association.
