The International Olympic Committee will investigate the actions of Canadian women's hockey players who celebrated their gold medal victory Thursday night by swigging beer and smoking cigars on the ice in Vancouver.
A number of players, including 18-year-old superstar Marie-Philip Poulin, were drinking alcohol on the ice following the team's 2-0 defeat of the United States. (The legal drinking age in British Columbia is 19.) Players lingered for more than 70 minutes after the awards ceremony reveling in the arena, which was empty except for media and arena staff. 19 is the age for tobacco purchases in Canada, too. My daughter had to get a shipmate to buy her a Cuban cigar, because she’s only 18.
Just say it was ginger ale and tell the nannies to TAKE A HIKE!
The IOC needs to get a life and leave them alone.
The IOC needs to leave them hosers alone, eh?
The IOC needs to stop being PC and sanctioning any excuse for lesbians to play Men's sports at an embarrassing level of amateurism. I watched a little bit of the women's game, my Son's 12 year old team would wipe the floor with these "Olympians". What a joke, stick to figure skating and curling ladies, you suck.
Yeah...I hope the Olympic Committee really goes after these Canadian hockey delinquents the same as they did with the underage Chinese gymnasts.
Oh wait...
Bunch of killjoys__just like beaurocrats. And as you say—shove it.
‘Women’ hockey players drinking beer and smoking cigars-why I am not surprised.
LOL, I’ve seen Pitsburg hockey.
geez-my Rx muscle relaxers are OTC in Canada and they’re worried about alcohol??
No way, eh? Take off. ;)
Geeeeez. Give it a rest with the PC crap, IOC.
The only thing worse than a moralist is a liberal moralist. Partial birth abortion? Check. Homosexuality? Check. Unlimited promiscuity, especially for minors? Check. Smoking and Drinking? Now we’ve got a problem.
..... The IOC wants to investigate unseemly celebratory behavior? By hockey players? How amusing. I don’t care what gender they are, hockey players are different from other people. They do not delicately sip from champagne flutes with extended pinky fingers while poking at the canape tray with tiny toothpicks and discussing stock portfolios. That’s for figure skaters and ice dancers. Hockey player celebrate by prying the caps off their beer bottles with their teeth, chugging them down, and lighting up big cigars. They throw their gloves in the air. They are loud, boisterous, and jubilant in the flush of a great victory. That’s who they are. If the IOC disfavor such behavior, then perhaps they shouldn’t be hosting hockey as an olympic sport.
Congratulations to the Canadian women’s hockey team on their true grit gold medal win. The girls definitely came to play.
