Iran to build S-300 substitute

Iran plans to manufacture long-range missiles due to the 'prolonged' delay in the delivery of Russian-made S-300 air defense systems, a top Iranian military official says.

Brigadier General Mohammad Hassan Mansourian said the initial information about the army's plans to manufacture of long-range missiles will soon be announced.

He added that the longest-range Iranian missile is presently the surface-to-air, medium-range Shahin missile, which can also be used for short-range purposes.

"Iranian industries have made considerable progress in electronic warfare and designing radars," said Brig. Gen. Mansourian.

The S-300 missile system can track targets and fire at aircraft within a range of more than 150 km (100 miles). It features high jamming immunity and is able to simultaneously engage up to 100 targets.

The Iranian military commander added that every conceivable operational demand had been taken into consideration in planning to manufacture the new long-range missiles.

I have been trying to tell everybody that Russia is not NEARLY as "helpful" to Iran as so many people believe.
First the "hijacked" ship full of missiles Iran had already paid for, and now a "major" delay in delivery.
Things are not always what they seem.

Jews stage anti-Zionist rally in al-Quds

Scores of orthodox Jews have staged a demonstration in al-Quds (Jerusalem) to protest Tel Aviv’s policies and its mistreatment of Palestinians.

Members of Neturei Karta (Guardians of the City) gathered in al-Quds’s Shabbat Square late on Sunday. The demonstrators shouted anti-Zionist slogans and were carrying sings which read “Jews aren’t Zionists.”

They also burned the Israeli flag, a move that infuriated security forces who clashed with the protestors and arrested one of them.

The incident comes as Israel is celebrating the anniversary of its fabrication on occupied Palestinian territories more than six decades ago.

Last January, a group of four Neturei Karta members crossed into the Gaza Strip and spent Shabbat there in a show of support for the Palestinian in the Israeli blockaded enclave.

A Neturei Karta delegation also attended a Holocaust revision conference in December 2006 in Tehran, where they thanked Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his “courageous stance against the crimes of the Zionist regime [of Israel].”

They also condemned “Zionist crimes in occupied Palestine” and noted that the Israeli regime took advantage of the Holocaust as an excuse to fabricate the “Zionist entity.”

Neturei Karta is absolutely reviled in Israel and by Orthodox Jews generally. They are a disgusting cult akin to the Phelps’ crew who protest at military funerals here.

PA condemns ethnic cleansing plan
The Palestinian Authority (PA) has condemned Tel Aviv’s plan for the mass expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland.

The Israeli military recently announced the measure, according to which anyone caught in the occupied West Bank without an Israeli entry or residency permit would be labeled an “infiltrator.”

Acting PA chief Mahmoud Abbas said, “Israel does not have the right to deport any Palestinian, the Palestinian Authority will not allow it,” the Ma’an news agency reported on Monday.

“Israel’s decision is an act of provocation and was meant to anger Palestinians,” he added.

“Our basic agreement with Israel is that the West Bank and Gaza are one geographic entity under the Palestinian Authority,” Abbas asserted, but failed to acknowledge the authority of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas over the Gaza Strip.

Hamas has ruled the Gaza Strip since wining the Palestinian parliamentary election in 2006

Taliban claim victory in Korengal

Taliban militants have claimed that the group recaptured the Korengal valley in eastern Afghanistan, seizing huge piles of ammunition from foreign troops.

The group retook the mountainous region after US military forces left the area last week.

NATO had earlier said it ended a mission that saw some of the most intense fighting of the nearly nine-year US occupation of the country.

The pullout was aimed at repositioning troops and concentrating them in urban areas, according to US officials.

The Taliban said the group seized huge piles of ammunition and fuel left behind by the US-led forces, saying they would plan to use the ammunition.

Korengal, in eastern Kunar province, is known as the Valley of Death by US forces.

Fighting in the area has claimed the lives of at least 42 American troops over the past five years.
