It was not a “stupid mistake.” It was a “stupid thing done on purpose.”

A “mistake” connotes something done wrong, accidentally.

Nooses are part of the iconography of America, and even world history. Although they have been co-opted by liberals as a symbol of violent repression of blacks their history goes far beyond that, and to many conjures up images of frontier justice.

I’ll bet this student simply didn’t think of a noose as an anti-black statement and was being mischievous in a harmless way before the PC police made it a state and then federal offense.

We should cut her some slack (oops, can I say that?)

According to the poorly-reported story, the girl had the rope with her, hung it over her desk, and then forgot to take it with her when they left — which if true would make it an “accident”.

Like accidentally leaving the stove on. Sure, you turned it on purposely, but you might have meant to turn it off.

If her story is true though, it’s hard to see how she could be anonymous. She did this during hours, someone had to see her at the library. And her friends apparently know she did it.
