The major "shame" that so many Americans have either never known or care to remember is the manner in which Juan treated the families of the MIA after the Viet Nam WAR

I read about it after the fact, and I found his actions puzzling and depressing.

In his activities related to the Vietnamese War MIA's and left-behind captives, his senatorial colleague and helper was the infamous traitor and turncoat, John Kerry, who needs to go on trial for his actions in the Winter Soldier treason campaign.

Skerry's actions were more consistent with his previous treason than McCain's were with his own past. McCain is puzzling in that regard.

You are being kind. I was too for quite a while, really wanting to give the man the benefit of the doubt. However, what he did to the MIA families combined with his duty record before capture have me calling the man anything but "hero".

And perhaps it is best to leave that behind as I really don't want to get into it again. It was a real hot topic for many Freepers, back in the day!
