U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Considering Stepping Down (Update at 119-news to him)

John Roberts, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, is seriously considering stepping down from the nation’s highest court for personal reasons, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

Roberts, known for his conservative judicial philosophy, has served on the Supreme Court since 2005, having been nominated by President George W. Bush after the death of former Chief William Rehnquist.

RadarOnline.com has been told that Roberts, 55, could announce his decision at any time.

The decision paves the way for President Barack Obama to make his second appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court following his first, Sonia Sotomayor.

"Since the current court is generally thought to be 5 to 4, that one person now becomes very important to the point where outcomes are now liable to swing the other direction.

It isn't. It is 4 to 4, with one flipping coin in the middle. There are 4 fairly reliable conservative constructionist justices. There are 4 very reliable hard-left liberal activist justices who see the court as an instrument for implementing changes that cannot be won at the ballot box, and view the constitution as malleable. Then there is Kennedy, a "maverick" if you will, who sometimes sides with the leftist and sometimes sides with the Constitution. What he uses as his guidepost is ANYBODY'S guess.

---------------------------------------

"Generally thought", IMO, doesn't mean 100%. Point being, replacing a generally reliable conservative "constructionist" with a generally reliable liberal anti-constructionist, would no doubt be (further) devastating to the republic as it is and was intended to be.

I was shocked when I saw the two - one locked as a dup - and read quite a few replies. I saw the updated thread title and the linked below reply later.

I had to step out for an hour or so. It was Megan Kelly. But last I saw she said it wasn’t true.

Yes, but that would not change it from a 5-4 split to a 4-5 split; that would change it from a 4-4-1 split to a 3-5-1 split. In that scenario the court is tilted hard to the left, with the only question being whether it is a 5-4 decision or a 6-3 decision against the Constitution.

As long as the only judges that Zero gets to replace are one of the 4 reliable liberals, the damage he will do is somewhat limited. The problem would arise if we were to lose Scalia, or Roberts, or Alito, or Thomas, or even Kennedy and suffer a replacement of one of these justices with a Bader-Ginsburg-Sotomayor clone.

I pray that this isn’t true. My biggest fear has been conservative justices would “get” cancer - they inject mice don’t they for it... I’m sure I’m wrong...

There was a small article on Fox which said he was not stepping down, thank GOD. When I first heard the rumor my blood ran cold, folks we better understand just how close we are too tipping the out of balance government over the edge. Having lived through the Warren court and the path of destruction it left behind, I NEVER want to see that ever happen again!

It’s co-owned ,as of some reports, by the guy who was an advisor to Hillary and Kerry.

Altman.

Since this is not true and can not be rationally explained as a mistake, then one must wonder if this was not some kind of trial balloon.

1. A threat to the Chief Justice

2. Groundwork for the media to discuss the NATURE of this court and the need for Obama to pack it. Which would lead to —>

3. An attempt to refire the leftist base regarding Obama’s great value to them

4. If challenged in court, there are a number of constitutional weaknesses in the HealthCare Bill that would eventually work their way to SCOTUS. This could be the beginning of that battle.

If true.... HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This would be one of the worst things I could imagine for our country at this point in time!!!

Justice Roberts is one of the only checks we have against the ruling leftism at the highest levels of our government.

The first report I saw on Fox was exactly what we all knew at the time. The thread was moving very fast so my post was probably already dated by the time it was read. I said Fox reporting it now, meaning Fox was reporting the same thing we were discussing. Why do people on FR have to be so damn rude??! Good Gawd!!

Yes, I heard it on Fox but everyone seems to want to shoot the messenger here so that is the last I am saying about it.

That’s good. It sounds like “disinformation” was put out there. We would be in trouble if Justice Roberts were to resign.

Bump...some here need to read your post. They would love to blithely run along and disclaim the messenger as not credible, but then why was this thrust into the mainstream??? Trial balloon... perhaps this is true.

I call BS on you. You were responding to post #168 which said something like, “This is the end of our country.” You weren’t responding to somebody commenting on the possible new information that it was just a trumped-up rumor.

Your post about Fox was the first one mentioning that Fox was now reporting it. The thread was about a report carried on Drudge that Roberts stepping down. Nobody reading the thread has any way of knowing that you meant Fox was reporting it was a false story unless you specifically say that because that’s NOT what you were responding to. It was just the opposite. All you had to say was, “Fox reporting right now that it’s not true.”

I think you were so anxious to be the first to post about Fox reporting on it that you didn’t want to take the two extra seconds it would have taken to post WHAT Fox was reporting. Instead, what you accomplished was to compound the fear and confusion.

You asked, “Why do people on FR have to be so damn rude??!” In reply, I’ll ask you why people on FR have to be so childish as to so want to be first to post something important that they can’t take two extra seconds to be concise? It’s so silly. I guess it makes you feel important. *SHRUG*
