However... frankly it would depend on the circumstances and what the context of the situation was.
If he was playing a game on the playground and using his fingers as a gun to pretend to shoot bad guys or something.. then this is beyond silly.
However... I can just see an inner city school with really bad kids where some bully wanna be gangster is sitting in class picking on someone he hates by whispering after school your dead! while making a gun with his fingers pointing at the other boy and slowly dropping his thumb and making a shooting sound.
That sort of thing in an environment like that would scare the bejesus out of me, and should be taken VERY seriously.
There are schools in this nation that are sooooooo horrific it would be better for a child **NEVER** to attend. This is true even if it meant the child would remain totally illiterate and innumerate! ( I **seriously** mean it!)
To suggest that rules prohibiting gun signs with fingers and thumb would somehow make a school like this more safe is like putting a band-aid on pumping hemorrhage.
He’s a kindergardner.
He’s five years old...there is no context.
This ain’t Mark David Chapman here.
Agree with you. The child is in K, has never been in trouble, pointed his “gun” at the ground, and is scared “too death” over a suspension. It is beyond silly.
Yes, we should definitely take a five year old making a gun out of his fingers very seriously. of course. (rolling eyes)
Are you REALLY from TX????????
If a kindergardener "scares the bejesus" out of you, then there's no hope for you and you should stay hidden under your bed all day surrounded by your ammo and canned goods and not interact with the rest of us sane people.
I can relate to being in that situation, and I would have no problem with the little brat's back-end being tanned as he's hauled out of school - for the threat, but not for his finger gestures!
Let's be clear about what is unacceptable: punishment for threatening bodily harm, YES; but punishment for "brandishing" a finger is INSANE.
