Republicans scold Liz Cheney (Would the GOP please buy a clue?)
yahoo ^ | 3/8/2010 | Ben Smith/Politico

A group that includes leading conservative lawyers and policy experts, former Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr and several senior officials of the last Bush administration is denouncing as “shameful” Republican attacks on lawyers who came to the Obama Justice Department after representing suspected terrorists.

Senate Republicans have demanded details of the lawyers' past work and Liz Cheney’s group “Keep America Safe” has questioned their “values." A drumbeat of Republican criticism forced the Justice Department reluctantly to identify seven of them last week. But the harshness of the criticism – Keep America Safe labeled a group of them the “Al Qaeda Seven” — has provoked a backlash from across the legal establishment.

“We consider these attacks both unjust to the individuals in question and destructive of any attempt to build lasting mechanisms for counterterrorism adjudications,” wrote the 19 lawyers whose names were attached to the statement as of early Monday.

Thanks!

Steele is worthless, insulting, incompetent to be "running" anything!

The GOP was so eager to put a "black face" voice at the head of the RNC but they selected the wrong one!!! It should have been Ken Blackwell. That man is terrific, bold, intelligent and someone who actually disagrees with Obama and the dims.

I knew when they selected Steele over Blackwell that they really weren't serious about having a strong conservative voice to forcefully stand up to the libs but some worthless RINO so as not to "offend" the "moderates."

So what's the very first thing that Steele did after gaining the top spot; he attacked Rush for hopping that Obama would fail at his quest to "remake America" in his own view.

What an idiot!

They (the GOP establishment) have earned the moniker "The Stupid Party".

How about reading the article? The 19 nobodies who signed the letter are NOT the "GOP establishment." They are a bunch of self-important lawyers, that is all.

Good on you. One of my pet peeves is editorializing in the headline, as if we cannot read and think for ourselves or -— more to the point -— shouldn’t.

I can see adding information in brackets, but not editorial comments. IMHO, of course:)

Not buying. Lawyers who defend mafia figures shouldn’t be above having their motives questioned. Mob lawyers who go on to work in the Justice Department particularly merit scrutiny...

Especially those lawyers who hop on an airplane, fly down and represent pro bono.

There's every reason to suspect their motives. What makes it so politically damning for Obama? It confirms what people already suspect.

Mob lawyers don't work for free.
