Hoyer rebuffs Gibbs on Mar. 18 deadline (Translation: We ain't got the votes Barry!)
politico ^ | 3/9/2010 | Patrick O'Connor

Posted on 03/09/2010 11:16:07 AM PST by milwguy

Don't confuse the House timeline with the White House timeline, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) warned reporters Tuesday.

"None of us has mentioned the 18th, other than Mr. Gibbs," Hoyer said in response to a question about whether Congress can pass a health care package by March 18, the date laid out last week by White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. "We are trying to do this as soon as possible. That continues to be our objective."

In the meantime, Hoyer said an internal fight over abortion restrictions "has to be resolved."

The majority leader didn't offer any ideas for a possible compromise between abortion opponents and their equally enraged adversaries in the abortion-rights camp, nor would he comment directly on whether Democrats could pass the bill without changing the Senate's current restrictions, which require insurance companies to set up separate accounts for anyone who wants coverage of elective abortions.

"I think it will be resolved one way or the other, and I think the bill will pass," Hoyer said after acknowledging that he wouldn't answer a question directly. "It's got to be resolved."

Last week, Hoyer spoke with Rep. Bart Stupak, the Michigan Democrat who authored the House abortion restrictions, but he cautioned reporters that their conversation was brief -- and, in no way, a formal negotiation.

"I have had no negotiations with Mr. Stupak," Hoyer said. "Mr.Stupak came up to me on the floor and said I would like to talk to you. I said okay. We have no yet talked -- about substance."

It looks like they are really struggling to bribe, threaten, and beg the House members for a yes vote. One of the House Dem whips said yesterday they only had 201 votes. While the MSM is shilling overtime for the messiah and his ObamaCare, and the mid-term elections inch every closer, the vulnerable House members are finally more afraid of the voters who sent them to Washington than they are of the witch Speaker Pelosi.

The longer this drags on, the more support will drain from the voters. Right after Obama's meeting at the House Republican retreat, he had a big bump in the polls, as did support for ObamaCare. That bump was very short lived and now both his approval and support for ObamaCare has continued to shrink. If they can't get this passed before Easter break, the wavering House members will have to go home and face the voters anger before they return to Washington. The clock is on our side, because the longer this drags out, the less likely the moderates are to sign their political death warrant by voting yes.

This could present quite a problem for BO/BS if true. It will ruin his enjoyment of the NCAA basketball tournament.

Why is Hoyer, an elected representative, responding to a WH flunkie? Never sell your position cheaply, Hoyer should respond to anything Gibbs says that he will take it up with the President. You would think Hoyer, after all these years in DC, would know how the game is played.

When he looks across the Capitol, Hatch sees more disarray. “Nancy Pelosi does not have the votes,” he says. “She admits that she can’t solve the abortion problem. If she had even 200 or 210 votes, she’d be in the floor fight right now. You can take that to the bank.”

Yes, but for public consumption you should always position yourself as the superior agent, especially with the hired help. I think even a Kenyan could appreciate my point.

This is about the time for a juicy, new White House scandal to scare off the Dems who might be teetering toward health care.

Someone tell Drudge to come up with something.

I think people are getting sick of this health care nonsense. No pun intended. The more O talks, the more I want him to shut up. I can’t possibly be the only one who feels this way, and I doubt this feeling is limited to Republicans only.

I think I agree with you. People are going broke, out of work, etc etc and this islamo-marxist is doing his Mugabe/Chavez to the union goon audiences. Evil evil ****er but McCain is just as bad.

This cheered me up a bit. If they do not have 200 then it will be tough.

“If she had even 200 or 210 votes, she’d be in the floor fight right now. You can take that to the bank.”

Lord let this drag on for another 2 months or more.

If we can drag this past March 18 they will have to come home and face their constituents, which is a very good thing. Barry and Nancy want to avoid that at all costs.

Gibbs rides the short bus.

Here is the deal: Demon-rats will continue this charade until, hopefully, the American public screams “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” long enough and loud enough that SOMEONE will have the BALLS to go into their Lord and Saviour’s office, kneel before him, and sacrifice themselves as the one who has to tell him it ain’t happenin’.

It seems the longer this goes on, the more 'yes' votes become undecided.

Time is not on their side.

“Code Red” - House Target List on Health Care
The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.
