You can’t dismiss or ignore Saddam’s behavior, either. He could have stopped everything in its tracks by complying with any of the dozens of UN resolutions, allowing inspectors free rein, and proclaiming that he had nothing to hide. Instead, he kicked the inspectors out (after making a joke of them for years) and acted like a man with everything to hide. And I am mistaken, or weren’t there photographs of convoys of trucks leaving Iraq and heading for Syria? I could have sworn there were, and that it was never determined what the convoys were carrying.

It's a long time ago, and I don't have the links, but there was a *really* good article explaining (in short) that the reason we didn't reveal the knowledge of the stockpiles is that it would have revealed both methods and sources we didn't want revealed, AND prove *very* embarrassing to people and countries whose -- well, if not good-will, at least "looking the other way" -- we were very anxious to acquire.

May have been RedState, may have been Instapundit.

Cheers!
