THE White House is battling to play down speculation that Barack Obama may be forced to delay his visit to Indonesia and Australia next week because of the failure to meet his timetable on passing health legislation.
The US President's spokesman, Robert Gibbs, has stressed over the past week that Mr Obama wanted a major health reform bill passed by March 18, the day he leaves for his Asia-Pacific visit.
But Congress leaders from his Democratic party are struggling to muster enough votes in time for Mr Obama to make an on-time departure.
Mr Gibbs yesterday said the White House was happy to have the health bill passed in the House of Representatives ``even if he's already gone''.
But several times during yesterday's daily briefing the White House press secretary was equivocal about whether or not Mr Obama's trip would be delayed.
``I don't have any updates for you right now on the trip, except to say the President is going on that trip,'' Mr Gibbs said.

Mr Gibbs was responding to repeated questions about whether the President still planned to leave for his Asia-Pacific trip on time and whether there was a chance of delay.
The President is due to leave Washington next Thursday, Washington time, for a trip lasting almost a week that will start with a stop in Guam, where the US has a significant US military base.
He will then fly aboard Air Force One to Jakarta for talks with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Part of Mr Obama's Indonesian visit will include showing his wife Michelle and their two children Sasha and Malia the suburb of Jakarta where he lived with his mother for four years during his childhood.

If he stays home they’ll just add the cost of fuel and support to the money “saved” under Obamacare...probably at 6% interest over the next decade.
Maybe he can just cancel his trip to Oz...I am so sad.

It would be a convenient excuse if he didn’t travel to Indonesia because of health care... they’re throwing shoes at his picture in Jakarta. And they took his statue down, too.
Health care or no health care, Bama Boy aint puttin off one off his flights on Air Force One.
If it passes, he can talk endlessly about the nuts and bolts of how to implement socialized medicine...but if it fails?
Nothing, zero, zip, nada to talk about and push for.
He will be done.
So he’s going to delay insulting our Australian friends for his healthcare debacle.
Remember all the spring break roundtheworld tours by Hillary and Chelsea? According to Sidwell Friends web site, their spring break starts on April 19 and ends on April 26. Taxpayer funded vacations must be nice.
Obama’s trip to Japan last year had been rescheduled, much to the annoyance of the Japanese. He insults to our key allies occur non-stop.
This is an excuse. He just needs more time to learn the Australian language.
Seems to me this is ENTIRELY in Pelosi’s hands. She can schedule a vote, and have it 30 minutes from now. After all, they talk about having an up-and-down vote. Just because she refuses, and has some notion it can’t occur unless it has her desired outcome is NO excuse. Its 7:10 PM... how about a 7:40 PM vote?
Obama better plan to be out of the country if Obamacare is shoved down the throats of the American people as angry mobs with pitchforks and torches will be marching on Washington. Obama and the Congressional Dems are like the French nobility in July 1789 who had no clue the revolution to oust them was at hand.

The world is waking up to this poser who has bowed and faked apologies all around the world to gain support for his cause. He fooled America to get elected but the world powers are tired of his campaigning and don’t want to waste their time buying into his agenda.
