PS--And that's if these state legislatures are SERIOUS. It should be considered that they may all understand just how toothless their bills are, and maybe THAT'S why they pass. They get some political theater. They grandstand on an issue, knowing full well that the impact of their action is precisely nothing. They know the public at large doesn't really understand how our system works, so they get some cheap brownie points with their constituents without having to actually do anything of substance.

Maybe that's not the case, but it ought to be considered. The other explanation is that they are ignorant of the Constitution. Either way it's bad. Sorry to argue the glass-half-empty scenario, but this is gubmint we're talking about. The glass is always half-empty.

So, if a convention is called - could it be called for just this one amendment, and not opened up to other untoward items? Or just how would it work?

That's a good question. The Constitution says:

"on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments,"

Which seems to indicate it would open up the whole can of worms. Hence, it never happens. Like I said, the Constitution was designed to give the national government dominance over the states, and you can see it in practice here and elsewhere.

Right. But if we get desperate enough - we may *have* to open this up as an option. What’s left insurrection? Not a great option.

How’s this going in Florida? I should know - I live here. But I haven’t had time to follow it as I should.

I’m in favor of a convention. But the conservative intelligentsia isn’t ready for it. They still are unwilling or unable to recognize the Constitution as a flawed failure, and hence would have no big picture strategy for using a convention to good ends.

I think their intentions are to send a leadership/state notice to Washington...this needs to be said from those in authority because demo congress is not hearing the people.
It’s the right thing to do. BtW...this could go to the supreme court from what I am understanding.

States with legislation

GA 5 active
AL 2 active
TX NONE
OK 3 active
WY 2 active

Lawmakers in an additional four states—Montana, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Utah—have publicly announced their intentions to file the legislation. A citizen-led initiative has also been announced in Colorado.

Us activists at FR need to know who is on our side in this & the numbers of the bills & names who initiated them are there. We need to deal with these in our own individual states & make sure they stay on top of it. Or ask our own Critter’s to jump ON board

already been filed or prefiled in 33 states—Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Most notably, Arizona’s HCR 2014, a revised version of the ALEC model, will be put on the ballot in 2010.

Lawmakers in an additional four states—Montana, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Utah—have publicly announced their intentions to file the legislation. A citizen-led initiative has also been announced in Colorado.
