And so you prove my point for me. The only groups agitating against it were leftist propaganda machines like the ACLU. Even CNN (which I consider very liberal) was running pieces explaining it, saying it wasn't going to do anything to civil liberties. The whole government was in lockstep behind it, never waste a crisis right?

FOX News even went so far as to get John Ashcroft on their shows when he was explaining the Patriot Act. I don't ever remember any really hard questions being asked nor do I really remember anything more than token concern for our rights. A FNC opinion poll from July 2003 had 91% of respondants saying that it didn't affect their lives at all, despite calling for unwarrented wiretaps, no warrent search and siezure and no warrent arrest and indefinite detainment. I'd call those fairly severe assaults on basic constitutional rights, wouldn't you? The silence of Conservative limited government types on the airwaves was deafening.

The Bill passed the house 375-66 and the Senate 98-1. Not exactly many speaking out against it.

I really don't know whats so hard to understand about the point I'm trying to make. Politicans of all stripes all use underhanded Saul Alinksy tactics. Doesn't matter if they have a D, R or I after their name.
