Why would Nobama attack Iran?
To: Strategy
It’s not a matter of whether we “can”, but instead a matter of “will”...
To: Strategy
Where on Earth is this crap coming from? There is NO WAY Obama is going to hit Iran. NO WAY. That task is going to be left to Israel, and Obama’s already distancing himself from her.

We may have to do it but I hate the idea. I don't believe the people of Iran want to be at odds with us.
This is a good example of the danger of allowing any government to hold absolute power, it always allows the evil to rise to the top!

This is Obastard just posturing so that he can then go tell the Israelis that they must put down their own weapons, because he, Obastard, the false Christ, will protect them. This is also a double-edged threat, because the clear implication is this: if you don't give up your plans of attack, and lock your weapons down, then we will attack you. This is some of the most ham-handed foreign policy theatrics since Kruschev banged the podium at the UN with his shoe.

Why would Nobama attack Iran? Since we know he won't do it to benefit America, I imagine he would do it as a favor to the other Muslim countries that don't want a nuclear Iran.

Though I doubt Obama will order air strikes on Iran, it would be very interesting to listen to the ‘sounds of silence’ from the usual anti-war crowds.
This would be like Clinton and Serbia only much more quieter.
To: Moonman62
That’s why I don’t get it. I don’t trust anything Nobama says or does and I am sure as you say it won’t be to benefit America.
To: ejonesie22
Since my son would most likely be flying some of those missions, this concerns me. Especially since Obama would sacrifice those men and women for his political goals.
With all I see going on, I am very concerned for this country.
To: MississippiMan
There is NO WAY Obama is going to hit Iran. NO WAY.Au contraire. I think Zero would be more than willing to use the USAF to pump up his poll numbers just like Slick Willie.
The Iranians had better hit their knees and get their asses up in prayer to their little moon god that ObamaCare passes. It's not like the mullahs don't deserve it either.
Too bad Zero won't do it for the right reasons.

To: MississippiMan
Israel does not have the sustained capacity for a bombardment of Iran. Unless they would use nukes, the IAF would have a similar effect on Iranian capacity that the Ploesti Raid had on Hitler's oil production.
Destruction of Iran's nuke capacity requires extended attacks. Only the USAF and USN have that capability. Whether Obama would do this is problamtical, but a man dsperate to save his presidency may just throw the 20% that is the Left under the bus to engage the middle and the right. As we see today with his plea to Dems to save his presidency, morals, right, wrong mean nothing. Only his survival in office has any meaning.
To: DonaldC
Precisely, he needs the poll boost. I also think that he has closer ties to the Arab muslim community, could care less about crazy persian muslims who's psychotic threats endanger arab muslim states in the region. He can get away with an attack that GWB would have been impeached over. Bomb away I say!

Even a lot of Freepers are missing something here: Iran is Shiite. If Obama is Sunni, which dominates in Indonesia, he’d have no qualms about glassing Iran.

In the end, if it’s obvious that Iran is truly on the cusp of having working nukes, and if we do nothing, I believe Israel will indeed use tactical nukes if that’s what it takes to destroy the Iranian threat.
Ahmadinejad believes with every fiber of his being that he has been chosen by Allah to pave the way for the 12th imam, and he believes the way to do that is to annihilate Jews and Christians. He dreams of finally making good on the dream of totally destroying Israel. If he gets nukes, he’ll use them. I think Netanyahu understands this, and thus Israel faces an existential threat that simply cannot be allowed to materialize.
As an aside, I fear we too face a very real threat from Ahmadinejad, but our president is a weak-kneed pacifist, not to mention Islamic sympathizer, and I flat do not believe he has the will or the cajones to act. I specifically worry about an EMP-by-nuke hit against us, one that would in the blink of an eye take much of our nation back to 19th-century technology.

My thought exactly as I was reading this thread. Also Iran worries other Sunni states like Saudi Arabia so he would bomb for their sakes without blinking.
He has supported Iran against its own people so has done his part there; now he will follow the Sunni line, which would delight in the destruction of “false Moslems” Shia Iran and prevent its rise to nuclear power.
Also please check out Alan’s post expalining why AntiMullah went on a back burner and is now coming back on stream

I'm no longer too sure about his -- removal of Saddam Hussein might have led to a need (in the eyes of some) for a toleration of a rogue Iran, because the oil states would have to cleave more tightly to an alliance with US.
Shortly after 9/11, the real state of savagery of the nest of vipers that is Saudi Arabia was revealed -- and then Mayor Guiliani handed back that check. There is no way to ally with or even bargain with or negotiate with any of the bastards.
Zero however will see the former and not the latter, with Zbig boy has a direct or indirect influence on US foreign policy. Despite the apparent US move toward armed conflict with the mullahcracy, I don't think it's actually going to take place.
Thanks FARS.

Just from the title this sounds like less of a policy declaration or a declaration of intent but a lot more like a straight assessment of military capabilities. I would say that this is limited and down from the Bush years. We should be able to execute this sort of air campaign for a LOT longer than 70 days. That limitation is a testament to the cuts made by this administration and a Congress that took control in 2006.
