From his statement:

Health care spending has spiraled out of control, piling costs on businesses, local governments, families and individuals.

The only way to fix that is to focus on lowering the cost of care. This bill mandates that every individual buy health insurance, but it does little to address the cost of health care, which is why many New Mexicans are uninsured in the first place. It tells businesses to do the right thing and provide insurance for employees, but doesn't guarantee or require affordable options.

It’s nice to see a Democrat display a little courage. He must have been listening to Barry when Barry said that DemocRATS should do just that.

How does this fit in on grand scheme of things? Was he a yes or no vote last time?

Excellent news...firedoglake had him as undecided. That pushes the nays, with leaners, to 215!

He had to vote “no” to keep his slim hope on being reelected alive. The former representative, Steve Pearce, is likely to regain his seat (he resigned to make an abortive run for US Senate to replace Pete Domenici, radical enviro Tom Udall won that seat).

I was at a tea party rally this afternoon with the Pubbie candidates for Governor and Steve Pearce and some local candidates. Joe the Plumber gave a rousing speech.

I’m fairly sure he was a ‘yes’ vote. He’s trying to save his worthless skin.

Keep calling and faxing. We would have 216 now if Newt and Dede had not screwed NY-23. I loathe newt like McCain.

I want to see a bunch of them announce their switch in the middle of the vote and in such a way that utterly repudiates Pelosi, Reid, and Obama. If they're going to make enemies of these guys, they may as well totally gut them in public.

Awesome. I cannot stand the Udalls. The Kennedy clan of the west. I wish they’d just go away.

He was a “no” vote last time.

Either Pelosi has the votes needed and released him or the Democrat ship is slowly sinking.

Hooray for those brave enough to stand up and speak out.
His reasoning for “no” sounds very level and valid.

I don’t think we can trust one-issue wonders who might get bought off and cave in.

Speak it out, Congress. obamacare “bill” is full of horsepucky - $2 Trillion dollars worth of it.

Firedoglake had him in the undecided category. No plus no leaners now equals 215.

If any of the Stupak bunch move from undecided to no, this thing is dead.

One other thing - if Matheson from Utah goes no, we are at 216. Pelosi may be screwed even if she peels off the Stupak bunch.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is it about Matheson’s vote that is so crucial, what makes him more important then the other ones who are “undecided” isn’t Matheson the same guy whose brother got some deal for his vote
