Think again

DON STEWART, McCONNELL SPOKESMAN: “Republicans have been trying to set up a meeting with Senate Democrats since yesterday to discuss this fatal point of order but have been met with nothing but silence. We suspect Democrats are slow walking us so as to have the House vote first. Since Senate Democrats refuse to meet with us and the Parliamentarian, we’ve informed our colleagues in the House that we believe the bill they’re now considering violates the clear language of Section 310g of the Congressional Budget Act, and the entire reconciliation bill is subject to a point of order and rejection in the Senate should it pass the House.”

You just know that if our side tried something as radical as this (e.g. abolish the income tax), even with a majority of the population with us instead of against us, and if we succeeded in getting it through the house with a huge majority, the other side would find some last-minute loophole on the Senate side to trip it up. The pundits and news anchors would be gleefully saying "not so fast boys."

Of course, if we try it (and I'm taking this story with a grain of salt) it'll be characterized as a "parliamentary maneuver" and "trying to circumvent the will of the people" if not "trying to shred the Constitution."

So all the bribes, all the promises are meaningless. Stupak, you're a moron. Obama knew these reconciliation points would never make it into the Bill. What you get is what you see, idiots.

And that means abortion coverage.
