A report on the New York Post website yesterday reports the IRS may hire as many as 16,000 new agents. This is alleged by Republicans on The House Ways and Means committee. Under the Obama plan the IRS would be given new powers of enforcement. The IRS will be given the charge to see every American has acceptable health insurance. If your plan is not acceptable the IRS may be able to withhold your income tax return and or levy fines due to your non compliance. Everyone under the Obama plan will be required to purchase insurance. If you cant pay for the insurance the subsidy to purchase will come through the IRS in the form of a tax credit. Under one version of the plan the money will come from a Health Choices Administration. Do we really want the IRS involved in assessing our health care and possibly releasing our tax information to other agencies?
Both options create legions of new federal employees. The Federal Government has created lots of jobs during this recession and I have written about why that kills private sector jobs . Federal jobs pay wages and benefits higher than the private sector and are paid for by tax payers. In earlier articles I have already written about the drag of government employment on the private economy.

If conservatives get control of the house can they circumvent that IRS power by defunding the new Gestapo?Give them a dollar to work with, thats right,a buck! That`ll send a message, and the majority of Americans would love the idea of tweeking the IRS`s nose like that.
“A report on the New York Post website yesterday reports the IRS may hire as many as 16,000 new agents.”
That’s good news.
I was considering joining the dark side, as Americans are doing exactly nothing to resist the commie onslaught.
It would be “better” for me and my family if I’m on the side with the big guns, food and armies, methinks.
It’s a good time to be a commie.
I fear it is more revenuers to hunt down and destroy those who object and withdraw. Like they have treated those with stills.
Yes, all non-productive jobs...
New federal bureaucratic government jobs
New state unemployment department jobs
New goose-stepping IRS jobs - Heil Obammy!
etc, etc...
The guy that dive bombed the plane into the IRS building was just a warning shot, you are going to see MUCH more of that type of reponse once the IRS starts enforcing health care. They had better invest in 16,000 body bags to go along with those new agents....
I am a expat living in another country. Will I be forced to pay for insurance that is not recognized outside of the USA and will they throw me in jail if I don't???????????????????????????????????
I wonder at what point the federal tax increases will kick in, and how much they will be. I suppose the Dems don’t know and will just make it up as they go along.
And of course those who get paid under the table can claim anything they like. Game, set, match...
My take on it is that each payday that goes by without the raised taxes, is one payday less the government gets.
Folks who haven’t been able to plug the holes in our border have been working on this for months.
Welcome to our brave new world.

You're right, but we do need some Federal employees, just not so many.
Taxes ARE withheld from their salaries, but those of us who don't work for the FED pay their salaries and the cost of their health care and pensions as well.
So actually we're paying their taxes as well as our own. I don't mind it up to a point, but we're way past that now, and have been for some time.
Ok, just making sure, I work for the Fed and earn my money and trust me I get giged on taxes...
Saying in general that Federal employees don't pay taxes is incorrect. Many of us earn our salaries as does anyone in any business. From that we pay taxes just like everyone else.
There’s no need to take my comments personally, my point is we have a bloated and all encompassing Federal government, when a limited Federal government is not only preferable, but is what our Founders intended.
There can be no question that Federal revenue pays Federal salaries, and that all Federal Revenue is derived from non-Federal sources. The government is not a wealth creator, it is a wealth consumer. Some of those Federal salaries are necessary, your example of soldiers is certainly one of them. National defense is the highest priority there is, and no one should mind paying for that.
But there’s no getting around the fact that the Federal taxes a Federal employee pays are a portion of the private sector taxation that sudsidized that salary.
