I own a few with comps. My favorite is the Glock 23C with a Jarvis barrel and 165 gr ammo. The comp does a beautiful job of equalizing the recoil. You can pick up your sight picture immediately. It would be a fabulous choice for a speed based competition. The S&W 500 Mag with 10.5" barrel has a competent comp on it too. My least favorite is my S&W 629PP in 44Mag. It is not a matter of correct operation. The port often flings particles back in the shooters face and ears. I've bloodied my left ear at the range. I had a similar experience with the S&W 460 Hunter. I attribute that to shooting .454 Casull with plated bullets. They simply start disintegrating out the way out of the barrel. You need a proper jacketed bullet to shoot safely with a comp in a high pressure application. The same load in a Ruger .454 Casull (Super Redhawk) performs perfectly. 2000 fps pushing a 200 gr flatnose plated bullet. Excellent for knocking down bowling pins at 50 yds.

I have the S&W 460 with the 5" barrel. I love that gun! I rarely shoot the "little" 45 out of it, because it's too much like shooting a 22. The 454 is more ummmm authoritative, but the real fun is that 460! When I light one of those off at an indoor range it usually shuts down the line for a moment. I don't care what else is going off on the line as long as it's not another 460 or a 500. That place goes dead quiet for a couple of ticks after the 460 speaks. LOL. I always wanted a gun that'd drop a Sasquatch or a T-Rex in it's tracks ... just .... well just because! My wife asked me "why on earth?" And my reply went like this: "Well Honey, we could be at the mall here in Miami FL and be attacked by a rampaging POLAR BEAR... you just never know. I know it's unlikely, but it could happen...." and so she had no real reply except to roll her eyes. Which of course said it all.
