The difference is with car insurance you’re insuring against you damaging others’ property or persons. There is no law requiring you to insure yourself. Only liability is required by law.

I’ve gotten several answers like that ... what I was looking for was this editorial that laid it out pretty good. Not saying that the statements here are bad, but someone wrote a great piece on it ... thanks for your answer too ....
