Bloomberg attempting to subvert the Constitution again.

Which means he and the other people involved in this report are engaged in seditious conspiracy! Send in the FBI, the Michigan cops, the BATF and arrest them all.

Don't worry, he bought his way into a third, illegal, term last fall; I have no doubt that, in five years, he'll be buying his way, yet again, into a fourth, and equally illegal, term.

The only federal gun ban still on the books was signed by a republican.

Not national guard. This is the state-sponsored militia. It’s my understanding that the old state militias were re-activated by some states to get around the claim that the president can federalize state guards.

You can’t get more than four million gunowners to join the NRA even after they offered free memberships. How do you expect more than that to take an interest in their Rights?

this is an intersting statment, and I understand why you make it — but consider a few other things...

First, I am a former NRA member. I no longer support them, because they have a habit of endorsing candidates for political office who are NOT trustworthy on gun rights — Democrats. As we discovered in the last two weeks courtesy of Bart Stupak, there’s NO such thing as a “Pro-Life Democrat,” and just the same, there’s no such thing as a “Pro-Gun Democrat.” I won’t support and organization that doesn’t recognize that kind of treachery. I’m not alone, my Dad is the same, and I’ll wager MILLIONS of others are the same.

Second, there are other organizations that also stand up for gun rights, and in some cases are more astute and forceful in their stands — like Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO) and Gun Owners of America (GOA).

Third, not every gun owning American is willing or able to join a gun rights group, for any number of reasons. That doesn’t mean they aren’t dead serious about their rights to possess firearms — we don’t ALL have to be activists, even though we support and vote for the cause.

Hope that makes some sense...

He'll still need the help of Congress and those folks want to keep their jobs.

You mean those same folks who just rammed healthcare up our ashes, in spite of the opposition from their own constituients. Far more people would be in favor of gun control that were in favor of what the 'rats just did.

They do not fear the next election. Not quite sure why, although passage of an Amnesty with instant voter registration might be an explanation.

The Progressives are on roll, at least *they* seem to think so.

Try to take away their guns?

But 5 million would be plenty. A million would be enough. A 100,000 "snipers" would get the job done too.

I, however, am a member of the NRA, TSRA, SAF/CCRKBA and other groups too.

BOTOH - Washington is a Liberal state so I think that’s out

Actually, they do have a "state Guard.

Washington State Guard

The Washington State Guard (WSG) traces it’s history back to 1855 when the Washington Territorial legislature enacted the first law creating the organized militia. After Washington became a state it created its state militia in 1890. The Washington State Militia served in the Philippines during the Spanish American War of 1898 – 1899. The Washington State Militia was exclusively under state control until 1903 when the Washington National Guard was formed and placed under both federal and state control.

During World War One the exclusively state controlled Washington State Guard was reborn. The Third Infantry Regiment consisting of 16 companies, a medical detachment, and a machine gun company was formed in principal cities throughout Washington. After WWI the WSG was disbanded.

On 01 November 1940, over a year before the U.S. entered World War Two, the Washington State Guard was again re-established with an Infantry Brigade and two Regiments. During WWII the WSG was used to guard vital installations and to patrol the coast lines. As an invasion of the U.S. mainland became less apparent, the role shifted to disaster assistance and civil defense. In 1947 the WSG was again disbanded.

On 19 May 1960 Governor Albert Rosellini once more re-established the Washington State Guard to augment the Washington National Guard as an additional internal security force for the State and to replace the Washington National Guard when the latter is inducted into active federal service. The WSG has been serving continuously since then supporting the Washington Military Department in a variety of missions and assignments.

My thinking was a civilian militia, like just a group of people

Ditto. Can’t stand the NRA, after having been a member for 18 years. That doesn’t mean that I’m not serious about gun rights. I know LOTS of people who are as pro-gun as they come but don’t belong to the NRA.

When the NRA gets serious about gun rights, its membership will rise.

You’re not serious about gun rights because you haven’t been paying attention. How many lawsuits does the NRA have to file before you do?
