What’s wrong with his hair? Does he have the “mange”, or scabies?

I served under an Army First Sergeant that was black and under a great deal of stress. he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. His hair started to fall out in tufts. he had patches of scalp showing ont he sides and on top of his head. looks kind of similar too me.
