8.0 is HUGE, Chilie was sparred because they are in the mountains and that helped to shield many areas and they like Japan are prepared for megaquakes.

The USGS message was sent out in error, there was no 8.0 earthquake, the tsunami warnings going out now are false, webcams on the island show everything’s fine, and Bloomberg just sent it out as breaking news too... Ugh, someone at the USGS is going to be a blimp in the unemployment numbers next time. Unexpectedly, of course.

Being a blimp will suck, no doubt.

The earthquake was a 3.2, hardly noticable on the island.

On Google via Twitter

@justncase80 MSNBC has not even mentioned their mistake! The USGS said it was faulty message and there was no 8.0 earthquake!

There was NOT an 8.0 earthquake in the Dominican Republic! @CNNI confirmed the USGS alert was sent out by mistake

Bloomberg had it, Huffington Post had it on their front page, even got the tsunami alert as well... When the USGS sends something out, it’s taken as absolute truth, and I’ve been yelling at the Bloomberg reporter who didn’t verify the story by going to the USGS website, as he stated in his article... Can’t just read a SMS on your phone and take it as truth.
