The investigative organization WikiLeaks on Monday released military video of what it describes as three incidents of an "indiscriminate slaying" by U.S. forces near Baghdad on July 12, 2007.
WikiLeaks says the encounters killed as many as 25 civilians, including two Reuters journalists. The U.S. military said in a statement at the time that a total of 11 people died in the strikes conducted by U.S. and Iraqi forces, including two Reuters employees.
The video, obtained by WikiLeaks, is shot from two Apache helicopters on patrol in Iraq. The choppers were responding to reports of AK-47 gunfire in the suburb of New Baghdad when military personnel on board spotted a group of nine to 12 persons, including what turned out to be the two Reuters photographers, walking through a courtyard. A military official confirmed the authenticity of the footage to Fox News.
The military contends that the U.S. followed the appropriate "Rules of Engagement" for these episodes. In fact at the time, the Pentagon says U.S. troops were hit by rocket-propelled grenades (RPG's) and small arms fire while caught in a clash with Shia insurgents.
"There is no question that coalition forces were clearly engaged in combat operations against a hostile force," said multinational forces spokesman Lt. Col. Scott Bleichwehl in July, 2007.

Obviously eight men kneeling at a corner are up to no good.
Especially when they have 2 AK’s and an RPG, the reporters knew it and thought they’d video the ambush.

I thought a lot of journalists were sympathetic to the al-qaeda. So it would make sense that maybe they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
You must be blind. I observed several of the men “standing around in the shade” with rifles in their hands.

You could see into the van and spot those “children”? Really? You have excellent vision.
You must have seen a different video. I saw two men with AK 47s, one with an RPG and no sign of kids in the van until the video was enlarged and slowed much later. I also saw no one firing on the injured man crawling in the street and American soldiers running to help with the kids in their arms.
You may have rather seen a Reuters report on these guys killing Americans? I think you may be on the wrong website.
I watched the whole video - looks to me like the troops did the right thing, especially given the behavior of the targets on the ground

Yes I watched the video. The video shows eight men gathering and then move all together to the very edge of the corner ambush spot.

Watch the full video on post#28 and you will change your tune. These guys were armed to the teeth.
Heres a tip for Reuters Reporters.
Don’t hang around people with AK’s.
Don’t hang around people with RPG’s.
Don’t carry thing’s on your person that could be mistaken for a weapon.
Never ever point anything that could be mistaken for one of the above at US military force’s.

I had a look at the video.
From what I can tell, the leader was showing the al-Reuters “journalists” his plan for an ambush, no doubt staged for their benefit. Its just a WAG, but his pointing a gestures sure looked like it.
Unfortunately for them, there were a couple of Apaches watching...
I can clearly see one AK and one RPG. And there was a motorbike too.
Apaches laying in ambush......something they have always been very good at. Glad they are on our side now.

Agreed but this is the logical result of becoming a world empire. It leads us to adopt the brutal, anti-life tactics of the old empires we once rejected and then, worse, people cheer from the sidelines. The only way to avoid this sickness to reject empire.
It’s amazing how sick so many people here can be, and how you can make yourselves believe what you want to believe to justify practically anything. I am ashamed that I ever called myself a freeper if this is what the typical response to something as criminal as this is going to be here. After seeing this video (yes, I saw the FULL video) and then seeing the responses here on FR, all I can say is that I have had enough.
