Sen. Tom Coburn, a staunch conservative from Oklahoma, is doing what seems almost unthinkable in this polarized political climate: Defending his Democratic colleagues from critics at Fox News.
At a town hall meeting, Coburn suggested that a woman who said "they can put us in prison" for not obtaining health insurance under the health care reform bill is misinformed.
"The intention is not to put anybody in jail," he said. "That makes for good TV news on Fox but that isn't the intention."
He also defended House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the architect of the House version of the health care legislation that he fiercely opposed.
"I'm 180 degrees in opposition to the speaker -- she's a nice lady," he said. The crowd could be heard responding unfavorably to his characterization.
"Come on now, she is a nice -- how many of you all have met her?" continued Coburn. "She's a nice person. She's a nice person."

You worry about your own Senators out there in California and we Oklahomans will worry about whether or not the Doc represents us.
Read not farther....FReepers!
Forget to add that people thought Ted Bundy was such a nice young man.
Yes, I am very angry. Obama will destroy America as we know it if he is allowed to continue. He has more of an opportunity to destroy us than Al Qaeda, the Taliban and Kim Jong-Il combined.

This hag has spent every waking moment of the last year working to nationalize my body and see to it that I get put in jail should I decide to opt out of her fascist health care system. This is not a nice lady.
I wonder if Nancy has some dirt on Coburn.
If Nancy is a Nice person, she should go live in Nice and leave the USA alone.
That’s it folks, the answer is obvious!
Vote for ME for US Senate. I promise, if elected, to never say anything nice about Nancy Pelosi.
In fact, I promise, if elected, to publicly refer to her as “Granny Rictus McBotox” at least twice a month.
Further, I promise, if elected, to vote against any earmarks that would benefit plastic surgeons in California.
Paid for by the Campaign to Elect Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus in 2010.
Perhaps evil can have a smiling face, but Mrs. Pelosi cannot. Far too much Botox.
One...there was a version of the HCB..that mentioned jail time for Health Insurance "slackers". Apparently they backed off of that.....
Secondly, Senator Coburn is a very prudent and a pretty calm guy...I suspect he knows how pissed off millions of people are..and is attempting to keep a lid on it.
He certainly cannot be fanning the flames.....Even the smart guys in the GOP....realize we are near a "Rubicon"
We shall see..............
We’ve been kidnapped and dragged over the Rubicon.
“”The intention is not to put anybody in jail,” he said. “That makes for good TV news on Fox but that isn’t the intention.””
Coburn is actually sliding around on this. So what if that is the “intention’? The intention of the Internal Revenue Code is not to jail the entire nation. It is to extract money from us.
The threat of jailing to keep the public in line on buying forced health care policies is just as bad as jailing. It is really effective against the middle class.
He would have said the same thing about Ilse Koch another Super RINO that has to go quickly.
Yeah, Hitler was anice guy at dinner time too!
“I guess my attitude is a little out of step with a lot of other Freepers here. Politically, I am vehemently opposed to Obama/Pelosi/Reid, but I dont see them as the enemy, at least not in the same sense that Al Qaeda and Kim Jong-Il are our enemies. I think the kind of anger Im seeing now is not disimilar to the level of anger that preceded the Civil War, and I hope to God we dont go down that path again.”
You are making a straw man. The choice is not: column a) throw your friends under the bus, and give your political enemy much needed aid; or b) all out, let’s-get-it-on, civil war. There is a broad middle ground here, that Washington Republican insiders conveniently ignore (I’m not saying you are at all, just that this mentality is prevalent in Washington).
That middle ground is to be honest about who these people are, and what they are trying to do. The middle ground is to express that sometimes, anger is not only acceptable, but necessary. The middle ground is to let everyone know that we are not going to simply acquiesce our way into becoming a poor man’s Europe. The middle ground is to say “over half of this country is angry, feels betrayed, and is scared over what these people are doing, and I don’t blame them one bit.”
Everyone hopes we don’t go down that road again. But I guarantee you one thing: if we do, it is not going to be because conservatives get violent. It is because we stand steadfastly in the path of people like Pelosi, and because they see their dreams coming apart. In other words, if it gets nasty, it will be because Pelosi, and millions like her, are very nasty, selfish, and power hungry people, who don’t care one bit who they hurt.
Nailed it.
She just passed taxpayer funded abortion. That’s nice.
Good post.
When fascists are frustrated, THAT’S when the guns come out.
Well, one positive thing I can say about anger, on election day it does seem to translate into a greater number of votes, and I’m really hopeful that the GOP will see the kind of results that happened in 1994. So stay angry!
Coburn calls a spade a spade.
I’m an Okie. We dig that kind of stuff.
Like Don Nickles and Jim Inhofe, Coburn’ll have his job for as long as he wants it.
Sorry if ya don’t like it, fellas, but that’s just the way it is. :)
