The terrible death of 59-year-old Tiansheng Yu one again sheds light on a problem that has plagued Oakland for some time, yet many don't want to talk openly about it. This space has, and will continue to do so.
The City of Oakland has a problem with young black men who just walk around picking people who they think are welcome targets for violence.

The City of Oakland has a problem with young black men who just walk around picking people who they think are welcome targets for violence.

Whether 'young' black men is meant to imply a restless youth or not; seems reasonable, that young - or not- black men, determining 'welcome targets' i.e. victims for their traumatizing violence (that could result in death) would be guilty first, of a HATE crime. As well, irrespective of any random criteria per 'random' victim , that this is a group MO; makes this crime premeditated and should it result in death; it should be called 'murder' - not manslaughter.

A tragedy for this family and all who have been so victimized; including all good citizens of Oakland whose streets are becoming what is a ready crime scene - or just a primitive hunting ground.
