Reports: Feds launch probe into Florida GOP By Jordan Fabian - 04/21/10 08:19 AM ET
The FBI and IRS have launched a criminal investigation into the Republican Party of Florida's issuing of credit cards to elected officials and staff, according to media reports.
The probe could affect the tumultuous Florida Republican Senate primary. An IRS inquiry is probing the tax returns of campaign front-runner Marco Rubio, former state party chairman Jim Greer, a close ally of Rubio's opponent Gov. Charlie Crist and another state GOP official.
The statements are being examined to see if the men used party credit cards improperly for personal use.
Former Florida House Speaker Ray Sansom is said to be the original target of the probe, which is being investigated separately. He allegedly included $6 million in the state budget for an airline hangar for a friend of a campaign donor.
Greer resigned in January after coming under pressure for overspending.
Rubio's campaign has denied that the candidate engaged in wrongdoing.
Here is more from the St. Petersburg Times:
(Excerpt) Read more at thehill.com ...
$ 222.7 million dollars in $ 200 or less?
Hmm, if every one of those folks gave $ 195.00, that would be 1,140,000 donors.
If they all gave an average of $ 50.00 each, that would be 4,454,000 donors.
If they gave an average of $ 25.00, that would be almost nine million donors.
Seriously, how many people give to a campaign?
And don’t forget about the credit card scam with the phony names for a lot of the donati0ons to the Obama campaign?
Every donation form I have seen requires you to identify yourself, so how can they say there is $222.7 million from people who cannot be identified?
OMG. Please do the democrats in NY next. Let's clean all the houses!
Remember the Casper Weinberger ‘indictment’ just a week before the 92 election.
Remains to be seen if this helps the dems.
DOUBTFUL
Look how this article points out this fact FIVE paragraphs down:
Meanwhile, in a separate inquiry, the IRS is also looking at the tax records of at least three former party credit card holders -- former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, ex-state party chairman Jim Greer and ex-party executive director Delmar Johnson --to determine whether they misused their party credit cards for personal expenses, according to a source familiar with the preliminary inquiry. If you have been watching the morning cable programs the predictable MSNBC is leading every hour with this story and highlighting Rubio’s possible involvement.
They say they can't afford their own health care. They can't afford rent. They can't afford food.
Imagine what they could do to help the poorest among them if they used all this money for something good. Instead, they waste it, and make the taxpayers pick up the tab.
Obviously, we've been giving them way too much of our money. If they can afford to waste it, it's time we cut back on some of their social programs.
Is there anyone that will ask honest questions about this allegation against Rubio etc?
I have worked for 2 companies that issued credit cards in the company name and assigned to one person (American Express, Joe Blow for example) That person was encouraged to use that card for both business and personal expenditures. However, when you submitted your expense report you only claimed reimbursemet for the business expenses. The employee was responsible for paying for their own expenses. Is that the situation here?
I believe that this info first appeared in the St. Petersburg Times == the most predictably leftwing newspaper in the South. The White House doesn’t miss a bet.
There is no "situation." It's the power of the accusation. It plants a seed in the minds of the voters that says Rubio did something illegal.
This so called "investigation" will carry on until his poll numbers destroy him. It doesn't matter what the truth is.
Yes, you are right about that....But isnt there someone with cojones in the Florida GOP (or these 3 themselves) that can stand up and explain the situation? And hammer home that there is no “there” there? A simple business accounting situation is easily explained, with documentation. No need to defend it but explain it. Shower the situation with light. The concept is pretty simple and I have explained it to more than one brainiac in my working life.
This shows BHO and his minions are terrified of Rubio and not limp-wristed Christ. Democrats are scared of any strong minority conservatives and thats why they attack minority conservatives without mercy.
Clarence Thomas, Miguel Estradam, JC Watts and Condoleeza Rice have all experienced this.
If the FLGOP knows what’s coming, they can have a “corruption/Chicago-style” campaign ad ready to go. Handled correctly, this will hurt the Dems much more than the Republicans.
Once the accusation is made, the seed is planted. Only by planting another seed will this one be smothered. If Rubio is clean, he should flaunt his cleanliness with a smile and cooperation. As a matter of fact, he should offer to open the doors for them.
Darkness cannot exist in a lighted room, but light can exist in a darkened room.
At least he's keeping one campaign promise - this abuse is certainly transparent
.
Sounds like the same nonsense they went after Palin for. It’s called the politics of personal or group destruction.
Of course the leftists would rather have the RINO Crist as the GOP candidate. Marxist politicing has been ugly for a long time. It’s gonna get much much worse. I just hope Rubino and his folks have foreseen this attack and planned accordingly.
Every conservative candidate needs to make doubly sure their house is clean. And they need to be prepared to jump right back at them. Heck, I wouldn’t even wait. If that’s the way the dems want to fight, conservative candidates should be demanding Fed and/or State investigations into all demrat candidates. Might as well get this over with in one big push rather than allow oneself to be killed by small cuts.
Yep. Suggest all the doors be opened, both the Republicans and democrats in Florida. Offer to open the doors for the investigators. Ask for transparency for all. Ask that this campaign be kept fair from the beginning to the end. The voters have a right to know who and what they're voting for on BOTH the left and right.
Use their own rules against them. Rubio could turn this around if he shines like a light on a hill.
Obama rescuing his buddy Crist?
The point being that conservatives must get out in front on this. They musy deny the demrats the initiative.
This “New Tone” crap does not work with ideological thugs.
IIRC, they had scores of donations from names like, jfjfjdkjf, sisisoeir, mnmnmfk and such. The Obama Jr campaign was ridden with intentional fraud.
And Chairman Steele. I sense a pattern developing here.
