Protests Across US Over Arizona Immigration Law (Estefan in L.A.)

In Los Angeles, police estimated 100,000 people had joined a march led by singer Gloria Estefan.

"It's the right of every American to protect where they live," she told the crowd.

"But that doesn't give them a reason to place a law that could create racism and discrimination."

The BBC's Rajesh Mirchandani, at the rally, says there were banners calling for a boycott of Arizona, and even one portraying the state's governor, Jan Brewer, as Hitler.

Just to get a demonstration permit in LA takes 40 business days.

The AZ law is only two business days old.

Many Cuban-Americans have been pretty disappointed with the Estefan’s lately. A couple of posters on the Cuban-American blog www.babalublog.com have even theorized in this thread http://babalublog.com/2010/05/our-gloria-leads-our-dear-dear-latino-brothers-and-sisters-in-los-angeles-may-day-march/ that she may even be contemplating a run for some sort of office in the future because of her involvement in politics lately.
