INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Sen. Dan Coats surged back four other Republican Senate hopefuls to clinch the party's nomination Tuesday night.

GOP leaders had high hopes that Coats, a senator for about eight years in the 1990s, would be a shoo-in for the nomination. National Republicans have backed him since he launched his campaign in February, shortly before Democrat Evan Bayh made his surprise announcement that he wouldn't seek a third term.

Let’s hope and pray that he doesn’t join the Lindsay Graham wing of the party.

I read that the NRA is going to endorse his dem opponent, and with good reason. If I lived in his district, I wouldn’t support him either.

Any person that supported the ‘94 gun ban is UNFIT for any office!

What proof do you have Coats is RINO? Or are you just parroting what you have heard on this thread?

Ok, the article is just ambiguous enough to not know how to feel about him (not being from Indiana.)

“Shortly before” Bayh’s announcement time-wise, but, he wasn’t running if Bayh was staying.

Why in the Hell did Indiana Republicans vote for this RINO? Did they even bother researching all the candidates, or did they just for the guy with a familiar sounding name? Where were the Tea Party groups in Indiana? Once again, too many candidates running, five last I checked. What is it gonna take to get Republicans to wake up and stop running so many candidates? They all knock each other off, and the RINO ends up winning. Oy vey.

OK. You guys put up a good fight. Now it is time to get behind the nominee. Let’s not have any circular firing squads this year...

Would it have been better if somebody else had won the primary? Probably... But they didn’t. And now you all have a choice.

He’s a lot better than Lugar, but I voted for Stutzman.

Former Sen. Dan Coats surged back four other Republican Senate hopefuls to clinch the party's nomination Tuesday night.

It looks a few relatively unknown candidates verses a name the voters heard before won. A lesson to be learned in the next primaries.

In the general we to dump the Rats.

Stop Obama and the crazyass congress in November!

From what I saw if you combined Hostetler and Stutzman’s percentages you wind up with 52% versus Coats 40%. I don’t know if that means anything.

Agreed. Looks like he voted for the Brady Bill and the “assault weapons” ban. Another Democrat running as GOP.

I stood behind Palin last election and held my nose to vote for McRINO. I won’t so that again.

You got that right....conservatives have a nasty habit of forming a circular firing squad.

Personally I will take even a RINO over a slimy-liberal socialist democRAT who will rubber stamp Alisnsky disciple president Zero.

Get behind Coats for now (he will be better than any rat). But start working on having Stutzman get rid of Lugar.
