UKIP

Little note: sad to see that Nigel Farage was in a plane crash this morning, all these Western politician plane crashes of late are getting curiouser and curiouser.

He seems to be recovering, but he is the leading light of UKIP, the man who dressed down Van Rompuy, the so-called President of Europe.

OK, I'm with you there. :) But, I suspect only the Tories ahve a chance of forming a "Rightist" government, and that's likely the best we can hope for this time around.

A significant percentage going to UKIP and BNP, coupled with a large Tory gain, would be a wakeup call for the politicians: they need to pay attention to the people's desires re: immigration and the EU, or be replaced by somebody who will.

“The BBC’s Martha Kearney has had a steer. Here are two posts that she’s put up recently on Twitter.

Lab campaign source tells they think 310-320 for Cons; 280 for Lab. 71% turnout

Senior Tory tells me they have small overall majority.”

That sounds to me like someone is putting on a happy face. I'd bet Labor loses some down-ballot races they hadn't expected to lose. In other words, I'm guessing the Conservatives do better than expected, Labor worse.

I am UKIP, but BNP are full of anti semites.

They are not fiscal conservatives either.

Yes, the BNP and UKIP can elect 12 guys and watch the Labourites and Liberal Dems govern from the hard left. Good idea.

I’m sure that there are some ridings (that’s what they call districts in the UK, right?) in which the BNP or UKIP can win a plurality, and I’d probably support the candidate of one of the two parties in one of those ridings, but in most of the UK the BNP and UKIP can’t get above single-digits and it would be counterproductive to vote for them instead of for the Tory candidate. Heck, the BNP and UKIP might actually be able to form part of a governing coalition if the Conservative Party wins the most seats but is short of a majority, thereby moving the country to the right.

Barney Frank today announced he likes the sound of this “hung parliament.” He said if that is the result of the British elections he’ll be resigning Congress, giving up his US citizenship and moving to the UK to run for Parliament.

So... about 3 more hours before they start announcing the results?

No, they are called constituencies in the UK. You're thinking of Canada, where election districts are indeed called ridings.

from the Telegraph UK

2109 The latest polls are pointing to a hung parliament, with the Tories securing a few seats fewer than the 326 they need for an outright majority. But with the outcomes in the contested marginal notoriously difficult to predict, and up to 40pc of voters still undecided this morning, it’s really anyone’s guess.

2101 Just an hour to go before polls close and the real fun - the counts, the swingometers and the Dimblebees - can get underway. We have reporters at around 20 counts across the country, who will bring you first word of the results in key marginals. The earliest results are expected around 11pm, with the majority of the 650 constituencies planning to declare by 6am.
