If this were the Senate it would be big. This is the house though, and that probably won’t be able to go ever just because Mississippi’s demographics are what they are.

I do have to wonder what this guy’s motivation is. Mississippi House seats are deliberately drawn to produce a Dem majority and the state’s population composition aids this. I get the strangest feeling this could portend a run for statewide office as its become almost impossible to win statewide on the Dem ticket in Mississippi but the lion’s share of courthouses and local offices are still Dem

Even before this party switch, there were more black Democrats in the MS state house than there were white Democrats. For how much longer can Democrats really keep control of the state house given that white Democrats are an increasingly endangered species in the state? Blacks are at most 35% of the electorate, and with so many majority-black districts being created it’s only a matter of time before the GOP wins the state house as well.
