Progressive Catholic groups vented outrage Friday over the decision of a Roman Catholic school in Massachusetts to rescind the admission of an 8-year-old student because his parents are lesbians.

"The idea that a child might be punished because he does not live with his two biologic parents is antithetical to notions of Christian charity and Catholic social justice," said Patrick Whelan, president of Catholic Democrats, in a statement Friday.

Having children of homosexuals in Catholic schools is an opportunity for the church—it in no way implies approval of the parents.

Mixed feelings here....

I can see why the school did it (and I agree with it).

But too bad for the kids. The children of lesbians especially need a religious foundation since they are not getting it at home.

As long as the parents don’t object to the teachings of the Church.

This seems nothing more than the camel’s nose under the tent.

It is even more an opportunity for the homosexuals, promoting the normalizing of homosexuality in the schools.

I, for one send my grandchildren to a Catholic School to spare them this indoctrination.

Considering the problems caused by homosexuals for the Catholic Church thus far, I would avoid having the children of homosexual 'couples' in the schools to avoid the inevitable lawsuits from the child/parents feeling 'uncomfortable' because church doctrine does not approve of homosexuality.

Better to take on the lawyers at the gate.

Got to love the media headlines every time one of these ANTI-Catholic groups pipes up. “Catholics....” riiiight.

Well what else is new here gay lifestyle proponents trying to shove their lifestyle CHOICE down the throats of others as usual.

I mean why would they want their child in a school system that teaches him that his parents are living in mortal sin and destined for hell unless they repent their sin, unless of course you want to make a point and get your 15 mins of fame to force the gay agenda yet again.

Hope the diocese sticks to their principles.

What about the rights of practicing Catholic parents to protect their children from being sexualized and used to promote a destructive, perverted use of the body?

The Catholic church, by allowing such a child into the school, is promoting that lifestyle and putting it on a platform for other children to emulate. They are not taking a stand against evil and the evil that is perpetrated against the Natural Rights of this child to have a biological dad. Their “parents” selfish use of this child is reprehensible and should not be coddled.

This toleration of evil has got to stop somewhere! This child has already been damaged by the “parents” by denying her Natural Rights which should be guaranteed by the Constitution.

Catholic Church has got to know that social justice is a code word for Marxist ideology which will destroy ALL religions. Wake up, Catholic church.

Are the parents just picking a fight? Why would anyone send their child to a school who says that their “lifestyle choice” is wrong?

Who knows, once their son was a student would they then complain that he was being discriminated against because of how the Catholic Church’s teachings made him feel while in school? They could bring about censorship of “hate speech” in a Catholic school through litigation.

During the 2008 election campaign, Catholic Democrats sponsored a vigorous media campaign showing how voting for Barack Obama was consistent with Catholic Social Teaching. It launched catholicsforobama.org and collected thousands of signatures on a petition supporting Barack Obama for president. Its state chapters worked with fellow Democrats to elect Obama and other Democratic candidates.

After reading the reasoning behind the situation, the Church is correct. It is not good for the child to be told that their..parents, guardians, whatever... are living in a relationship that is not just immoral/sin, but also against natural law (unlike divorce/remarriage w/o annulment - such things do not go against natural law).

baloney

try teaching the curriculum that homosexual relations are sinful and see what mommy 1 and mommy 2 say to the school about making little Johnny feel upset and bad about his mommies

Little Johnny is being used by militant homos to force the church to stop teaching their lifestyle choice is wrong

BTW, who went and made attending Catholic school a civil right? Especially for parishioners (or non parishioners) living in sin

If getting a quality education is a “civil right” as the left would claim,

then the public school system wouldn’t qualify for fulfilling the “right” in most cases,

so... by extension, attendence in the “school of their choice” would be a “civil right”.

Considering how much the Boston archdiocese has paid out in claims on pedophile priests, this crackdown on the children of lesbians seems a bit hypocritical.

so once the church screws up (in the past) it is never allowed to get back on track with its teachings?

Letting these 2 students into a Catholic school would be a perfect setup fot a Hate-Crimes violation.

There is no such thing as a “progressive Catholic.” It’s an oxymoron, like “communist American.”
