I agree, too. Reportedly, Obama Sr was only in town for a University of Hawaii 10-year class reunion. That may have been the catalyst that brought Obama Sr 10,000 miles from Kenya to Hawaii in December 1971, but obviously other things happened during that month as well.

I've often thought of an Adoption action (possibly sealing the "birth certificate" per Hawaii Family Court rules), such as:

1) Obama Jr became officially known as Barry Soetoro in the US Court system (Hawaii Family Court);

2) Barry Soetoro’s name was changed BACK to Barack (Barry) Obama (possibly for Welfare benefits); and/or

3) the grandparents took Protective (and possibly LEGAL) Custody of Barack Jr., while Ann went back to her other life in Indonesia with Lolo and Maya. Madelyn and Stanley Dunham may have needed Barack Sr present in the courtroom to make this happen, and they scheduled the Family Court date this ONE time Obama Sr reportedly ever came back to Hawaii — December 1971. This is the most-likely scenario, partly as I recall very few (if any) photos of Obama Jr in the 1970s with mother Ann after that December 1971 "reunion". The subsequent photos we have of Obama Jr after December 1971 in the public record are with his grandparents.

I'm guessing Ann, Obama SR & Obama Jr "celebrated" Christmas 1971 together (photo #1 BELOW) — and that is when Obama Jr got his BIG GAUDY WATCH — before Obama SR jumped back on the plane back to Kenya (photo #2 & #3). Photo #4 below is Obama Jr with his new watch again in 1973. It's likely that Ann jumped on a plane BACK to Indonesia shortly thereafter, leaving "Barry" with her parents in Hawaii.

Obama, Sr. marries Nidesand in Kenya in 1967. They are eventually divorced, with Nidesand claiming physical abuse. With Obama, Sr., Nidesand has a son, a half-brother of Obama, who lives in Shenzhen, China and who reportedly works in the export business; his name is Mark Ndesandjo. (Another son of Nidesand and Obama, Sr., David Ndesandjo, was killed in a motorcycle accident.) Obama, Sr. eventually has at least eight children with four women. (Two of those children are borne by his ex-wife Kezia while Obama, Sr. is still married to Nidesand.) Obama, Sr. does not see his son Barack, Jr. again until 1971, when he visits Hawaii to attend a reunion of former UH classmates. Obama, Sr. is eventually killed in 1982, at age 46, in an automobile accident. Another accident a year earlier left him with both legs amputated. (Close friend Philip Ochieng, a journalist in Kenya, states that Obama, Sr. was “excessively fond of scotch” and ended up in poverty “without a job.”) The earlier automobile accident was, according to at least one source, an apparent attempted hit-and-run assassination in retaliation for Obama having testified against the man who murdered his friend Tom Mboya in 1969. I was recently reminded that in the pages of his fantasy biography, Obama reported a conversation with his half-sister (?) Auma, wherein she stated that of all of BHO Sr.’s children, the only one who had proper proof of paternity and therefore could receive an uncontested inheritance from BHO Sr. was Mark. Ruth had proof of paternity. None of the other “wives”, including Obama’s mother, it is assumed, did.

Why didn’t Obama have proof of paternity, so that he could inherit from his father? (Putting aside that one must wonder what there was to inherit. Obama reported the conversation; it’s the detail about paternity that matters, in this case.)

Obama also reported in the fictional biography that he found his birth certificate while he was in high school, along with a newspaper article about BHO Sr., but in the article there was NO mention of BHO Sr.’s wife and son.

This means that he HAS seen his birth certificate. Not only a document, allegedly from Hawaii, that proves that another document exists in the Hawaiian files. So he knows what is or was on that document, with regard to paternity.

Therefore, if years later, after his father (?) died and while he was visiting Kenya, Auma and he talked about how ONLY Mark could prove that BHO Sr. was his father, then what, if any, father was listed on Obama’s birth certificate? HE knows.

If Soetoro adopted him and changed his name, legally, to Barry Soetoro, then something would have to happen to undo that adoption. If Soetoro adopted him, and if it were an open adoption, then Obama ought to be able to get a copy of his birth certificate.

If the adoption was undone by BHO Sr.’s visit to Hawaii, then that adoption would also presumably be open, so Obama ought to be able to get a copy of his birth certificate.

The state will release it, in any case, if there’s a court order. Obama could have requested a court order from any judge hearing an eligibility case.

However, if BHO Sr. adopted Obama in order to undo the Soetoro adoption, then why would Soetoro have stated in the divorce papers, a decade later, that he was responsible for Barry’s education, although Barry was over the age of 18? The fact that Barry is mentioned at all, seems to indicate that Soetoro was his legal father at that point in time.

In any case, why would BHO Sr. have to come to Hawaii to help Barry get into Punahou? Wouldn’t/couldn’t Soetoro serve as well? That is, if the scholarship was for a foreign student.

Someone paid BHO Sr.’s way to Hawaii. Who that was and why they did it is an interesting question.

It’s likely that both his “parents” (or all three of them) wanted to palm him off on the grandparents. So you may be correct that they were assuming legal guardianship and needed both “official, biological” parents to sign off on it.

Even if Soetoro adopted Barry, it may be that Stanley Ann reverted to using his original birth certificate, with Obama as father (if it listed him as father), in order to facilitate his entry into schools, for some reason.

Did Kenya sponsor scholarships to Punahou, for example, whereas Indonesia did not?

We do know (or we think we know, if we can believe school photos shown on the Web) that he attended Hawaiian schools as Barry Obama.

He apparently was in Hawaii, visiting his grandparents, for some time during the year before he moved back for good. He was there during summer (according to his book) and it’s likely that he was also there for a time during the previous school year, if one accepts at face value the photo of him in school at Noelani Elementary, in THIRD grade, with his friend Scott Inoue, 1969 around Christmas, if I remember correctly.

He may have been registered there as Barry Obama, simply because Madelyn stuck him in school, using his “original” birth certificate or re-registered him in the public schools under the name that he used in kindergarten.

So it may be that, for continuity’s sake, Stanley Ann wanted him to attend Punahou as Barry Obama and so used whatever documents served her purpose at the time.

It appears possible, even likely, that she and her son used whatever documents, including passports, would serve best at any time.

Multiple documents, different names, different citizenships. Easy as pie.
