Turkey withdraws ambassador to Israel By Selcan Hacaoglu | Associated Press

ANKARA, Turkey – Turkey withdrew its ambassador to Israel and canceled three joint military drills on Monday after Israeli commandos killed at least 10 people and wounded dozens aboard a Palestinian aid convoy unofficially sponsored by Turkey.

Furious Turkish protesters tried to storm Israel’s consulate in Istanbul then marched toward the city’s main square denouncing Israel because of the deaths, which drew condemnation from around the world. Arab countries expressed outrage and European countries with passengers aboard the ships summoned the Israeli ambassadors home and called for an investigation.

Turkey, which currently holds a rotating seat on the U.N. Security Council, demanded it meet about the killings, which Prime Minister Bulent Arinc equated with “piracy.” He denied Israeli statements that some on the ships headed for the Gaza Strip were armed and had attacked the Israeli soldiers.

The raid was a devastating blow to relations between the long-time allies, already deeply strained by tensions about Israeli actions in Gaza. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was cutting short his Latin America tour and was expected to return home Tuesday.

It looks like turkey has become controlled by islamist freaks. It was a great idea to let them into NATO. What genius decided that?

“Truman.”

I guess it’s finally time to revise the Truman Doctrine.

“No, this was all pre-planned.”

Quite true. An interesting analysis is here:

Flotillas and the Wars of Public Opinion

Excerpt:

“Israel is now in uncharted waters. It does not know how to respond. It is not clear that the Palestinians know how to take full advantage of the situation, either. But even so, this places the battle on a new field, far more fluid and uncontrollable than what went before. The next steps will involve calls for sanctions against Israel. The Israeli threats against Iran will be seen in a different context, and Israeli portrayal of Iran will hold less sway over the world.”

“And this will cause a political crisis in Israel. If this government survives, then Israel is locked into a course that gives it freedom of action but international isolation. If the government falls, then Israel enters a period of domestic uncertainty. In either case, the flotilla achieved its strategic mission. It got Israel to take violent action against it. In doing so, Israel ran into its own fist.”

Obama has been trying to collapse the Israeli government ever since he realized that Bibi’s got a set. This is going to backfire on Obama badly - watch and see. He has overreached and is so close to tumbling over that a stiff wind is all it will take.

We need to throw Turkey out of NATO. They’re long past being useful for us. Thanks for letting us put missiles there decades ago, but screw em now.

Six Turkish soldiers killed in attack: report
Rebels from the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) have stepped up attacks on Turkish army posts in the southeast in recent weeks since warmer weather allowed them to leave their mountain hideouts, but the group rarely attacks naval targets.
