They’ve probably come up with a new design to compensate for the rough cut...maybe a little thicker and wider so they can crunch down on it more.

I hope and pray that you are right!

The internet is a double-edge sword in cases like this!
I think I would sleep better at night had I never seen photos of the oil slick or video of this gusher.

Taxpayers pay for so much crap already. They showed a Brown Pelican covered with oil.

The Brown Pelican was almost extinct supposidly from DDT.

The Enviros had a big breeding program in the Gulf and that's why they're in the Gulf in such numbers to start with.

In our area, we have those filthy rotten gulls all over the place along Lake Ontario...and they weren't around 50 years ago.

Not realistic. A properly set charge could seal off the pipe a thousand or so feet down (after drilling to that level). But a large explosion will just fracture the rock and cause oil to leak through cracked rock. A nuke would be even worse for shaping the explosion plus would irradiate stuff that would last for thousands of years unlike oil which will only be around a few years at the most.

....they will be REWARDED for this major screw-up!....

Your ignorance is profound. this is not a major screw up. The current event is as much a part of the oil business as drilling or refining or pumping gas. Rather than screw up it is an event beyond the known parameters of the art.

You assume that all is known and that all can be planned for and that any deviation from some lawyerly perception of Christ like perfection is catastrophe. You are very wrong in the way you look at things.

They are to be rewarded for having taken a risk. Those of you who have a mortal fear of risk will never be rewarded. Rather than bitch and moan, you should rejoice at the new bounty.

The relief well is just another well. I don’t think it will relieve the pressure substantially. Saudi Arabia is full of wells where the oil flows up and is collected using the pressure of the field. The fact there are lots of holes and wells doesn’t mean one will cease to flow when another is opened.

Eventually the pressure might be lessened but not in the immediate future.

Hopefully the wife and I won't be next week. We have reservations in Gulf Shores for the 11-14 for our 15th anniversary.

Neither of us go into the gulf water much anyway, prefer the condo's pool and hot tub, but we are praying the oil is still off shore so we can at least enjoy the beach without to much odor and stuff.

They know the geology of the area. Pick an unpermable oil layer and nuke below that. On irradiating stuff, you don’t know what you are talking about.

The relief wells are not designed to relieve the pressure, they are planning on drilling into the original bore and diverting the oil to those two wells, they plan to seal this well from below once they have drilled into the bore.

This morning we witnessed both an honest to goodness miracle and real heroes in action.

IMO, it's important to give thanks and remember this morning as we face troubled days ahead.

The reports are that very little of the sea food has been effected by the oil.

The relief well is mainly to allow sealing of the main well from below. It will probably also relieve some pressure.

I think digging two relief wells is dumb....increases the possibility of something going wrong.

Per Coast Guard, the Cap has been moved into place above the well, and BP will begin lowering it onto the well within the next ‘couple’ hours.

Due to the irregular cut from the Shear they are not sure how much leakage they will have, but anticipate that it will be more that if the diamond cut had worked as they won’t be able to get a complete seal now.
