Culturally speaking, the French have always been a progressive group; they've played a significant role in pioneering modern art, cinema, fashion and cuisine. Obviously McDonald's isn't the most progressive (or French) of eateries, but for the first time the home of the 'Royale with cheese' in France has launched a television commercial featuring an openly gay character. The ad campaign's tagline is is 'Come as you are' ('Venez comme vous êtes').
Obviously McDonald's is making a statement with this commercial: the Big Mac isn't just for the typical nuclear family - everyone is welcome to bask in the glow of the golden arches, which is a great message.
But is this actually a good ad - i.e. does it make you want to eat a Happy Meal? Is McDonald's more progressive than KFC? Do they still make McDonald's land cookies? When did a 30 cent cone become 60 cents?
I guess you have not picked up a Sunset magazine in awhile.
Ads and articles feature same sex couples as mainstream.
I was thinking the other day that almost every modern tvshow/movie ect has one Gay couple or non hetro-sexual charactor but not so much for groups of friends with multi ethnicities unless it is the IFC or Sundance channels.
Pls keep your perverted commercials in France, thanks!

For the record, McDonald’s ads have been gay since the 1960s.
That may be true, but only recently did they feature this:
It’s really a sad, sad commercial. The father is having his son’s affection alienated by some older male and made to look stupid and clueless about what’s going on in his son’s life and that is supposed to make McDonald’s look good?
And truly...some of them taste just like that!
