S.Korean army general accused of spying for North

SEOUL (AFP) – South Korean intelligence officials are investigating a two-star army general on suspicion of leaking military secrets to North Korea, a report said Friday.

The general, identified only as Kim, had allegedly leaked classified information related to military management and operations, Yonhap news agency said.

Military and intelligence officials declined to confirm the report.

There are some bad apples who rose through ranks during Kim Dae-jung Roh Moo-hyun governments. They did so by kissing the two guys' ass. In time, they can be agents of influence and could go one step further. Into the deep end.

The other possibility is that NK moles in gov uncovered major skeletons in his closet, and threatened him to cooperate with them or else. This is a more possible scenario,

Possibly... but I would be more worried about what the KCIA would do to me if I turned traitor and got caught than I would be of any skeleton in my closet.

Maybe the KCIA has been toned down a bit in recent years, but they had a fearsome reputation when I was in the American Navy.

KCIA

First thing Kim Dae-jung did was to gut KCIA(actually renamed as National Security Planning Department) completely. Suspected N. Korean agent headed the agency for a few years. He was a sister living in the North and met her during his trip to the North(if my memory serves correct, it was right before he became director of the agency,) and most likely recruited by N. Korea.

IIRC, they shot EVERY officer who's AO the assassins got through to attack the Blue House back in the 70’s. Of course, the president then was Park Chung Hee, and he was their equivalent of Andrew Jackson.

And in other news, NYPD investigators were seeking two suspects from an armed robbery in Harlem last night, identified as 'Leroy' and 'Tyrone'.

Yikes!!! How in the world could they subvert a Major General?
Maybe relatives in the North they were holding hostage?

That is a very good theory. I seriously doubt there is anything of material value the NorKs could offer a Major General in the South Korean army to spy for them, but if there was a threat of torture and/or death made against relatives, that would be a powerful incentive.

Then again, if Pyongyang offered some of these goodies, who could possibly resist the lure?
