It's really not so strange, it's common. You thing it happens with just deaf people? No way!
Most gifted people get harassed, beaten down, kicked out of groups, by the average, just for being gifted. They DEMAND averageness.

Sometimes and in some places in some cultures.
Average may let you fly under the radar in middle school, but most women show mate selection preference for height and intelligence.
For myself, if I and my wife were deaf; I would want a child with hearing so that SOMEBODY could hear what was going on and better interact with the hearing world. Moreover, I would want MORE for my child that I had for myself, and to specifically deny my child an opportunity to ever hear a child's laughter, an opera or concerto, a woman's passion..... beyond belief to me!

‘Just wait for the deaf communitys harsh reaction to this.’
Will they be gesticulating wildly and start a campaign that deaf people should not become hearing-enabled? Kinda like what the militant homosexuals are doing trying to keep other homosexuals from getting counseling to become hetero?
LOL!

I remember the hearing of two deaf parents with genetic defects screening their offspring to ensure that their child would inherit deafness. To them, it wasn't preferable to have a fully functioning child, it was more important to create a new member of their deaf culture. Yes. They were a lesbian couple. And PBS did a profile on them.
I think that their first child was a boy and they did it a second time to try to deliberately create a deaf daughter (rather than simply adopting one).

Yes. They were a lesbian couple. And PBS did a profile on them.If PBS doesn't do it, who will?

Thanks marko for posting that. We've all needed something to feel positive about after weeks of negativity. That is just beautiful. The looks on both of their faces is beyond words.

That deaf community (Gaudelet) has its issues. They are not repressentative of the entire deaf community.
There’s a whole ‘nother one in Rochester NY, the NTID (National Technical Institue for the Deaf), where that kind of mentality is NOT present.

That is so cool. The little guy looks like he immediately tries to talk back to mom.
