South Korea blasts pop music, propaganda over the border

South Korea is waging war with pop music.

After the country formally accused North Korea of launching the torpedo that sunk their warship Cheonan, South Korea has declared psychological warfare in retaliation.

Their first missive into the hermit kingdom was a pop song.

Ended a six-year suspension against state-sanctioned propaganda, the South sent the message across the border through the airwaves.

Before airing a rebuke from South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, the broadcast features K-pop girl group 4minute singing their song "HuH (Hit Your Heart).”

The song was specifically chosen to irk the repressive regime with its liberating lyrics: "Baby, you're kidding me? I do what I want and I do it my way.”

South Korea had threatened to do this several weeks ago. The North immediately said they would shell the speakers. There was also an implied threat to take hostages of the several hundred South Koreans working at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea. It will be interesting to see what the North's response is today, especially given their recent internal power shifts this month.

And our capitol city and millions of our citizens are not in artillary range of a madman.

I never understood why South Korea was so foolish as to allow its citizens to go to this place while the Kim regime was still in power. Didn't anyone in Seoul think that these people could be used as bargaining chips?

It was part of the Sunshine Policy, which like many of America's policies over the years ran on the premise that if you are just nice enough to maniacal genocidal dictators their hearts will melt and they will cry and free everyone.
