Yes, the Left and the Islamists share a common enemy: non-Utopian Western civilization.

The Left should know better, but they hope that once the common enemy is defeated, Islamism would then become amenable to reform. Should they succeed, the result will be quite the opposite.

History has shown this again and again: When radical idealists join forces with thugs to destroy the established order, the thugs will no longer find the idealists useful and will purge their erstwhile allies.

It has the Judicial branch too. Law is another endeavor that arrogates to itself the ability to fix society, needing no help from any other source to obtain and maintain moral values.

It has something to do with hash and harems.
Omar Sharif movies and the liberal tendency to romanticize non-Christian and non-Western cultures.
They only figure it out when the bombs explode or when the saber is coming toward their neck.
