I forgot that running around on your wife is okay if you make REALLY good sausage.

Sheesh, give it a rest, the guy is dead...are you happy?

Thanks for the ping. I remember “Big, Bad John” on 78 rpm. May he rest in peace.

RIP. Not sad because how many people make it to 81.

He was the first person to even threaten me on TV, He said if you don't think Jimmy Dean sausage isn't the best you ever had then I'll warp you over the head with a wet squirrel. Kind of Islamic to me.

His home on the James River is something of a local attraction. The Jimmy Dean brand logo is landscaped into the bank of the river. Beautiful spread.

I was there once in the mid-nineties. We met with him in his kitchen to put together a real estate deal. It was a nice spread, but not ostentatious at all. He showed us his grammy for BBJ and some other mementos from his music days. He was a great guy and will be missed.

My wife’s dad was a partner and then owned outright a propane/butane gas business there for years before he died. Her high school class just celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.

Her family were members of 1st Baptist when Dr. Maclung was the Pastor.

No one else has said it, so I will:

Jimmy Dean was a solid conservative and a huge Republican.

He was a guest presenter at the Statler Brothers’ retirement concert in Salem, Virginia several years ago. One of his memorable remarks was, “Every day is groundhog day for me.”

His Jimmy Dean Show from the late 1960s was great!

And he introduced us all to a "Muppet" named Ralph!
