I was at McDill once. I tried to break out. Anybody wanting in has a nefarious plan or is very, very bored.

When I was a kid Me and a buddy use to ride our bikes to MacDill and go to the bowling alley. Dependent IDs.

F4s would be doing takeoffs and landing. Talk about a ear drum buster.

yep, if you went through the Dale Mabry gate, and two F4s in formation takeoff on runway 22...that's 4 J79s....you were probably yelling at each other at the bowling alley, and didnt realize it.......LOL...spent half of the 70s there..enjoyed every minute....place is too damned crowded nowadays for this guy..

Back in the late 60's, some friends and I used to stealthily slip up some back trails to then-McCoy AFB in Orlando to get as close up a look at their B-52s as possible, we only made a couple of those trips, the last one found us face-to-face with some stone faced Air Force security MPs, and they told us it would be better if we took the formal tour of the base and to have our parents bring us by, the implied message being "Stay-TF outta here boys", LOL

And we did.

My family was posted on base. Those jets were literally taking off in my back yard. Gen. Tinker Elementary in 1969... we went outside to see the launch of Apollo 11, which was visible (and audible) 150 miles away from Cape Canaveral.

Security at MacDill was more easy going than some of the places we lived, but I’m glad to see they’re on the ball, protecting families and the base.
