strange.. my wife and I discussed this just the other day. I traveled to Tampa recently and was able to get on base pretty easily in a vehicle w/o a DOD sticker, with no search of the rental car.
The security seemed pretty lax considering what they have on that facility. I’m not surprised this happened there.

After a while you get a feel for people. Some have tells that make them stick out. You could always drive over the chain link fence and no one would know .

DoD stickers were discontinued following 9/11. Only way yo get waved on is with a military ID. Vehicles are randomly stopped and searched.

Proper ID is either a CAC for active duty and civilian employees or retired and dependent IDs.
