LOS ANGELES -- The family of a 16-year-old California girl rescued from the Indian Ocean as she tried to sail solo around the world has no plans to cash in on their child's adventure with a reality TV show, documentary or any other deal, Abby Sunderland's mother told The Associated Press on Monday.
Marianne Sunderland also said reports the family signed a deal for a reality show while her daughter was at sea were untrue.

Marianne Sunderland said that report and others were based on misinformation and misunderstandings.
Before her daughter set sail, she said, the family was approached by Magnetic Entertainment, a small Santa Monica-based company that expressed interest in developing a reality show.
At the time, Abby Sunderland's older brother Zac had just become the youngest person to sail solo around the world, a record that has since been broken.
"They just wanted to do a show showing what our life is like and how we ended up with kids who are ambitious," said Marianne Sunderland, who lives in suburban Thousand Oaks with her husband and their seven children. She is expecting an eighth child in a few days.
Magnetic Entertainment shopped the show but never found a buyer, she said, and the family eventually reacquired the rights to its story. She added that family members have no interest in trying to shop them again.
The company still lists plans for a reality show and a documentary on its website, but the state Franchise Tax Board said Monday that Magnetic's business license was suspended for failure to pay back taxes. Company officials did not respond to phone calls or e-mails.

I read in one of the early articles that his business failed because of the economy.
Thanx, didn’t know that. Makes one wonder why they borrowed the money for her to sail?
Abby’s mother says there is no reality show, that the deal fell through.
They shopped it around and no one bought it.
I don’t know. I wouldn’t have. I was reading the Sailing Anarchy forum and Mr Sunderland is not liked. At all.
And they had sponsors too that chipped in money.
Who knows why people do what they do?
Of course a book has been forthcoming. She’s been working on it for a while now. Why is that surprising?
Sailor Abby Sunderland's Dad Signed Her To TV Deal Before Her Doomed Voyage June 14, 2010
Yesterday, Abby blogged that she was undaunted by her misadventure, and was considering writing a book.
Writing a book is not suspicious. All sailors do that.
Because I don't want to find the links in the post again (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2533958/posts?page=55#55)
It's part of the law of solosailing: If you are inspired by a previous sailor, you write to inspire the next generation.
What raised doubts about Abby's motivation for the voyage with me is that was that her book plans were vague until after she set foot on the fishing vessel Abby Sunderland will write a book Real sailors can't not write, any more than they can;t not sail.
(Probably only just learned that Jessica Watson had written one - for the past year it's always been about chasing Jess for Team Sunderland)
I heard that her brother had previously made this voyage. I don’t recall national headlines and I don’t recall hearing that he wrote a book.
But someone “missing” for days became headlines and with headlines you can get tv appearances to sell a book.
If you read her blog, you’ll see that she’s been working on the book for a long time.
Why are you so antagonistic toward this young woman? You say you’re only hating on her parents, but you have a lot of animosity toward her as well. Why? Are you jealous that she’s accomplished more in 16 years than you have in your entire life? Do you feel like a loser compared to her, and your final solution is to destroy her?
I posted a link to what the news article stated was on her blog. THAT'S antagonistic?
Are you jealous that shes accomplished more in 16 years than you have in your entire life? Do you feel like a loser compared to her, and your final solution is to destroy her?
You need to lay off the personal attacks. They don't fit with your tagline. Seriously.
You have continued to demean her and misrepresent her. It’s easy enough to check her blog, where she discusses writing her book during her journey. I still don’t understand why you have a vendetta against this accomplished girl.
I have posted what I read with links. You however posted this emotional tripe: Are you jealous that shes accomplished more in 16 years than you have in your entire life? Do you feel like a loser compared to her, and your final solution is to destroy her?
I won't answer you again.
And yet you refuse to go to the original source — her personal blog — to see what this young lady has written. You prefer to pass along what others wrongly say about her, and don’t consider what she herself has said. Tragic.
